The stellar chef of the pretty Rasa Penang deserves a better audience for his creations. As it was, Bill Withers' ‘Just The Two Of Us' aptly echoed around a space occupied by 20 empty tables, one waitress and this diner. Culinary advice from the helpful waitress led us through an encyclopaedic list of Thai, Malay and Chinese dishes. Malay is the speciality cuisine, with sambol sauces and shrimp pastes informing the varied fish, beef and goreng noodle dishes. A Malaysian king prawn curry proved rich and moreish, a mix of subtle flavours. Couples should beat a path to this criminally underused facility beside a row of almshouses to take advantage of the romantic intimacy and perhaps the two-person set meals. A house Jacques Veritier at £10.50 a bottle makes a decent sip.
