London's best review, food and drink news
There aren't many places in London where you can buy an entire sea bass, cooked to perfection, for under a tenner or dine in such surreal surroundings. Bintang's inimitable decor incorporates plenty of bamboo and a few tribal masks, topped off with what looks like a decrepit, fairy light-draped beach shack along one wall. The cooking is a revelation, from chanai puri puri deliciously light discs of batter, with delicately-spiced lentil filling to plump and spicy king prawns with lime leaf and galangal. But sea bass is the undisputed highlight, marinated and oven-baked in the sauce of your choice rich, fragrant bintang sauce is perfect if you don't like things too hot. With warm and welcoming staff and candlelit tables, it's a romantic place to linger over a bottle of wine; on hot evenings, head for the garden.
