Out of the concrete expanse of the Tustin Housing Estate on Old Kent Road grows something of a culinary rose. Judge the 805 Bar Restaurant not by its humble exterior, nor by its simple white decor (of similar hue to the praise garments worn by members of the Nigerian Celestial Church of Christ). The fact that late on a Sunday night its two spacious dining rooms were heaving with well-to-do Nigerians tells you all you need to know. Since 2001, 805 has been serving up southern Nigerian staples with the odd European flourish to customers from far and wide. On the menu, you’ll find a varied selection of west African favourites such as jollof rice, moyin moyin and egusi (ground melon seeds, served with spinach), alongside the restaurant’s signature dish, monika (marinated grilled fish with chilli sauce). The asaro – a mashed yam pottage cooked with seasoned tomato and onion – was gorgeous, served with tilapia and plantain. Ewa aganyin (lightly spiced smoked beans, also accompanied by fried plantain) was laudable too. Service comes with a smile, and the portions are as hearty as the atmosphere.

Friends say that I am very, very eligible. Reasonably good-looking and intelligent; cultured and practical; witty, frivilous but contemporaneously...
This place is Nigeria Pride and joy. Mr James the owner is a top man. The food is great. i wish to be a shareholder. Go down to 805
Food and decor was really nice. However, some items on the menu were a bit picey.
