  • Indian tapas is the hook here, but Imli is no passing fad. Cut-price brethren of the classy Tamarind, this vibrant restaurant has culinary zip aplenty. Deep orange and pale-green walls are further brightened by colourful photos of Indian folk and foodstuffs, the front space leading on to a larger back area. We sat by bowls of perfect red capsicums: a stylish touch. Tiled flooring and bare wooden furniture discourage dallying; Imli is somewhere to relish then relinquish. Standard dishes are rendered well – the gingery tang and tender meat of the Goan pork; the comforting dhal; the smoky, mushy aubergine masala – but the innovative food is even better. Don’t miss the seared slices of masala grilled beef, served atop mild cumin and turmeric mash with (a mouth-watering masterstroke) a coriander and avocado dip. Almost as good is the Imli risotto, featuring crunchy spiced veg over a creamy mix of mushrooms and arborio rice. Three dishes amount to a substantial two-course meal: great value for food of such quality. If you’ve never tried Modern Indian cuisine, come here first.

The first time we went to this restaurant (early 2009) it was reasonably good - this time the sauces were bland ( one tasted of canned tomato soup), the nan was rubbery and generally the food was was poor. A place to be avoided!

Hit and miss. Nice idea (smaller dishes) works well for two people. Masala chicken with coriander and avocado was great, spicy eggplant was done well! But spicy squid was bland and greasy and we returned it uneaten (they didn't charge), naan was microwaved and chewy in a bad way.

    POOR, poor, poor.
That Timeout gave this 5/5 speaks volumes of Timeouts random rating service.
I dare anyone come here and be satisfied with the barely acceptable Indian offered.

When I rang to book a table, I was told that they do not take booking on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. When we got there, they asked if we reserved a table. Luckily we managed to get a table. Overpriced, poor service and food is just okay.

Overpriced bad quality “Indian” food – one of the dishes definitely tasted and looked like it was made with ketchup!

yeah, it was ok. service was a little bit clunky, appetizers coming way before your drinks, having to order drinks a few times before you got them, that type of thing. food was ok but nothing stellar.

Food was nice. Service was OK, They started serving our main course when we haven't even finished eating our starters. Overall i liked the food.

Superp service and excellent food. The place is really children friendly, and gave us a wonderful night out with our little boy.

Like the advert says, does what it says on the tin. Interesting food, well served, reasonable ambience, sensible prices. Excellent.
