You could easily walk past Bi Won and assume it was a West End sandwich shop. Think again – this bright, café-like restaurant serves some of the best Korean food in town, in double-quick time to an eager clientele of Korean students and office workers. It specialises in set meals, but the menu also runs to barbecues and huge jeongols. Lunch is a bargain at £5-£8 for a barbecue, soup or stew with rice on the side and a dish of well-spiced kimchi. We hit the jackpot with the kimchi chigae, a flavoursome broth of fermented cabbage, silken tofu, belly pork, leeks and onions with a searing chilli heat that got stronger towards the bottom of the bowl. The daeji bulgogi was also inspired: strips of pork barbecued in a sweet chilli sauce, served on a sizzling platter. Bi Won’s decor is refreshingly simple: pine barbecue tables, cream paint and a line of cutesy Korean dolls lined along one wall. Factor in rapid service and reasonable prices and it’s easy to see why so many people lunch here.

We discovered this little restaurant by chance. It has a no thrills ambiance, but that should not put you off.
It was full with korean dinners, which is always a good sign.
The manager made us feel very welcome and helped us to choose our meal. We were spoilled for choice, and we'll definetely have to go back to try all those exciting dishes, which we just couldn't fit in.
We had a lovely starter of Jelly Fish and some little nibbles, choosen by our host. As main we had a hot pot of beef and baby octopus, which was just divine. All flavours were unique and the food was fresh.
Great value, divine food and lovely hosts. We'll definetely go back.
Fantastic food, amazing service (quick, very polite and so good you almost don't notice it).
Couldn't have been better.
