• Bi-Won

    Budget choice
  • The kimchi chigae at Bi Won is one of the best quick lunches in the West End. Served bubbling in a hot stone bowl, the stew is packed with thin slices of belly pork, green onions, tofu and fermented cabbage, with a chilli kick that almost lifts off the top of your head. This is one of half a dozen dishes you can try as part of the bargain set lunch, which comes with rice, soup and a selection of panch’an. Over the past few years, we’ve enjoyed every dish we’ve tried here, and the bright, wood-lined dining room is a great place to retreat from shopping on Oxford Street or trawling around the British Museum. As well as the chigae, we recommend the tolsot bibimbap (rice, meat and vegetables cooked in a stone pot – here enlivened by the addition of pine nuts) and the jajangmyun (thin, Chinese-style noodles rolled in sweet soy sauce). The menu also runs to sashimi and Japanese bento-style box meals, but for our money, the Korean food wins every time.

Most disappointing! The expression paying more for less applied can describe our meal.
On arrival, an older lady was very indifferent towards us, but the girls were lovely.
When we ordered the meal, I asked for barbecued beef ribs but got sliced beef on a bed of onions sprinkled with sesame seeds instead! There wasn't any staff around to enquire and ended up eating it as we were so hungry, it was nothing special. We also asked for orange juice but got orange cordial!
The place was empty - I wonder why!
On leaving, I felt very short changed & unlike Arnie, I will not be back!

Not impressive at all. I've tried several korean restaurants hunting for best kimchi-meal and to be frank, I'd give this the lowest rating. Food wasn't hot enough, barbecue pork came on sizzling pan is not hot at all ! rice punch, which is supposed to be cold, wasn't really cold.
Service was good though, friendly waitresses, anyway the restaurant was quite quiet and not busy at the time of my visit.

This place is great ! good food at a reasonable price with friendly staff. I think a lot of places in london could learn from there level of customer service.

My low score is purely based on the dish I received. I ordered what was described as loin (pork) in a sesame oil and garlic sauce. What I received was 3-4 rashers of bacon on a bed of lightly fried onions and sprinkled with sesame seeds. This main 'barbecue' dish was so measly that it took no more than 5 minutes to eat. I can't comment on the quality or value of other dishes but I was disappointed by mine and felt the description was misleading at best. If you do go, don't risk choosing a dish based on the menu description, just point to what someone else is having.

We discovered this little restaurant by chance. It has a no thrills ambiance, but that should not put you off.
It was full with korean dinners, which is always a good sign.
The manager made us feel very welcome and helped us to choose our meal. We were spoilled for choice, and we'll definetely have to go back to try all those exciting dishes, which we just couldn't fit in.
We had a lovely starter of Jelly Fish and some little nibbles, choosen by our host. As main we had a hot pot of beef and baby octopus, which was just divine. All flavours were unique and the food was fresh.
Great value, divine food and lovely hosts. We'll definetely go back.

Fantastic food, amazing service (quick, very polite and so good you almost don't notice it).
    Couldn't have been better.
