  • We happened upon this "restaurant" on a freezing cold day in March 2013. Bought a couple of takeaways and left. Since was Si cold and place completely empty we decided to sit on the provided outside tables. To eat our food. A waiter came out and told us to leave in Bulgarian accent. We a offered to pay the extra "in house fee" which was double the takeaway cost. This was not accepted by waiter as we had other food stuffs from Marks and spencer which we were eating. Since the place was literally 1/4 full and outside completely we questioned why we had to leave. And we were simple told it was "not allowed". Food is 5/10. Not worth being treated like rubbish for. Overall 1/10. Most certainly NOT recommended which is a great pity as at first glance seemed authentic and inviting. We do need good shops in Covent Garden. This is not one of them.

  • If you want proper British fish and chips served by a Romanian and two Polish people, this is the place to come. Apparently.

  • Took my girlfriend out for lunch and we ate in. You walk through the kitchen to get to the downstairs walking right next to the food they've left on the side to be collected by waiting staff. You get put on tables with other people, have to climb over them or have them climb over you. The waiting staff don't seem to understand what you ask for. I asked for salt, they brought pepper, it took quite a while to explain the order in the first place. It's really expensive, £37 for cod and chips twice, a curry sauce, fanta and a coke. It was okay though, nothing special.

  • My husband took me out for a dinner and it was on Friday evening. We fancied fish and chips and chose Rock and Sole Plaice in Covent Garden. We both had Cod. The fish wasn't too bad but the chips were horrible. And the service waitress seemed to be very impatient. The prices on the menu are charged sensibly. However we did not expect to be that much disappointed over under-qualified fish and chips and rude service. It ruined a part of our evening. And I will not return there again.

  • Ate at Rock &Sole Plaice with visitors from south of France. They were extremely impressed with the quality of fish and enjoyed the chips. Portions were huge if a little expensive - but, then, it is in Covent Garden...

  • The best fish and chips I have had in a long time, can't wait to go back again. People saying the price is a bit steep but it's no more expensive than anywhere else in London and I personally think much cheaper for a city with such over inflated prices. Food was delicious and a nice atmosphere, I would definitely recommend this place to anyone visiting London.

  • I must agree with P Burton. It was expensive and the fish and chips was dreadful. The batter was dark, oily and required a chisel to break through it's carapace, revealing a dry little portion beneath. The chips were far too thick and utterly tasteless. I really didn't thing fish and chips could be quite so awful.

  • I usually make allowances for fish & chip outlets in London. Having lived by the sea. I know what freshly caught fish should taste like. i recently ordered haddock and a very small portion of chips from The Rock & Sole Place. The fish must have been as old as the man who served it to me, and the chips tasted as if they had been warmed up many times before they were placed in the box with the ancient fish. I live in Covent Garden, and the word on the block is that The Rock & Sole Place has deteriorated and should be avoided.
