This café and deli (opened 2004) attracted fresh interest with the publication of owner Rosie Lovell’s book, ‘Spooning with Rosie’, in summer 2009. The café is styled like a cross between boudoir and 1950s corner shop, but for many this enhances its quirky appeal.
A daytime-only operation, Rosie and her team serve breakfasts from scrambled free-range eggs with chilli jam (£4) to muesli with yoghurt and prunes or cinnamon toast.
Lunch options are focused around big sandwiches (£3.50) and filled ciabattas (£4.50); there are also salads, pies, and tarts. The deli aspect may look like window-dressing, but all items are indeed for sale.
In January 2011 the opening hours were extended from 9.30am to 7.30am, in a trial serving breakfasts for Brixton's early risers.
