The colour red represents fire, passion, and in Rossopomodoro’s case, tomatoes, and plenty of them. Tins are stacked around the room to create an eye-catching installation of which Andy Warhol would be proud.
This vibrant restaurant is good fun from the word go. Thanks to friendly staff and an upbeat soundtrack, it has a tangible buzz even when empty early in the evening.
The Fulham Road branch is part of a chain originating in Italy that has recently expanded to Covent Garden and Notting Hill. Yet the place still feels fresh, not formulaic, with its bright, modern room, a mix of high and low tables, and an adventurous menu.
Pizza-makers do their thing in full view of diners. They clearly know their craft, expertly executing everything from a simple napoli to the vesuvius: double-layered and bursting with cheese, salami and, of course, tomatoes. Starters were just as successful; a thoughtful waitress warned us that our Italian-style tortilla would take 20 minutes – it was worth the wait. Diners vary from dough-eyed couples to groups of families and friends – all revelling in this vivacious venue.
