Southwest London’s The Penny Black Restaurant prides itself on saving the reputation of British cuisine, one perfect Beef Wellington at a time. Located in affluent Chelsea, decor here is simple and elegant, and the focus is very much on fine dining, with crisp white linen, sparkling silver and true British hospitality. A menu of British classics reflect the principle here – to resurrect British dishes using the highest quality ingredients. Dishes like roast beef are made with the finest forerib of Longhorn beef, carved at the table and served with plentiful roast vegetables and crisp, fluffy Yorkshire puddings. The pudding list is nostalgia inducing, with fine dining versions of childhood classics like bread and butter pudding, Arctic Roll and apple and rhubarb crumble. The wine list features, you guessed it, some British entries, as well as a selection of international wines and bubbly, and there’s also an enticing cocktail list.
