We managed to perfectly swerve all the horrors you can entail on the Saturday night of Halloween, by booking ourselves dinner at the Sands End, the staff were great,  we called on the off chance at 8pm not expecting them to be able to accommodate, but a table had just left and they reserved it over the phone for our arrival 30 mins later.

The pub was busy but not heaving with that lovely warm cozy Autumnal feel, Not a zombie in sight thankfully. The menu although not extensive, serves up modern British cuisine with all the classic gastro pub options. We shared a yellow fin tuna cerviche with soy and wasabi dressing, guacamole and crispy shallots, it was delish £8.00 They initially brought out a steak Tatar, having muddled our order but very politely and quickly rectified the mistake, as well as not charging us the service on the bill at the end of the night, you can't say fairer than that. For the mains we indulged is some truly British meats, the very trendy these days hanger steak, with a wild mushroom and peppercorn sauce £21 and Slow roast pork belly with hispi cabbage, black pudding, apple pure and fondant potatoes £17.50 Great pub, part of the same group as the Brown Cow on the Fulham road and the Cross Keys in Chelsea.

This nice looking pub is the closest to my work, and we try to make it our go to place for a happy hour. Overpriced drinks are the least of the problem, as staff tends not to be too friendly - the mix of emotions goes from completely ignoring for the longest time, to plain rudeness when approaching a table - specially from the manager. As much as I would like to come more often, it is just not inviting, and straight forward not worth ruining your night out.
