The Society Club is a bookshop, but also a place for 'the best of all possible things', according to its owners. As such, it brings together tea, coffee and cakes to be enjoyed in interesting company at a long communal table; the Club also sells vintage wares and literature, plus ownmade jams from "Mrs. P". Poetry readings, live music, storytelling and other artistic endeavours also take place at the venue. It's a very charming place, but be warned that the food and drink offer is very limited.

Not sure why Time out gave it a 2. I stumbled upon this last night for Margeret Pepper's talk about her life and paintings and met the most fabulous array of friendly people. It's intimate but very friendly and Babette and Carrie who run the place are extremely knowledgable about their books. I would say this is one of London's hidden gems.

Books, art/photography and a full cocktail menu - what more do you want? Perfect secret place to impress friends with. There's usually a few assorted sleeping dogs in the corner, too.
