I went for a Katsu curry on Monday lunchtime as I do most weeks - I work round the corner and find it to be a consistently first rate, seriously tasty pick-me-up for a crap day at work. I can't fault a single thing I've tried from the evening menu either (fab place for a beer) but the chicken kara-age and the octopus balls are simply stunning. I don't think it's over-priced because it's all ethically-sourced, handmade and as fresh as fresh can be so I really don't know what the other reviewers below are on about. Perhaps they're Tsuru's worried competition?

This small Japanese restaurant in the shiny shopping mall behind Tate Modern is aimed at the takeaway crowd with its display case of ready-prepared sushi and salad boxes, and fridge full of canned drinks. You can eat in – perched on leather-topped stools at high shared tables, or at one of the standard tables near the door – but it can get uncomfortably cramped at lunch. Quality is higher than in many high-street sushi outlets, with all food freshly prepared on the premises. Staff are bright and efficient.
Katsu curry is the signature dish, the mildly spiced sauce cooked for eight hours and served with breadcrumbed pork, chicken (breast or thigh), beef, cod, salmon or vegetables and steamed rice; you can also order it as bento or a sandwich. Other hot dishes include teriyaki chicken or salmon, tempura prawns and miso soup. Tsuru makes a fuss about sustainability, using line-caught yellowfin tuna and Icelandic cod, and packaging that is biodegradable or recyclable.

My favorite place for lunch !
Amazing katsu curry and nice salads .
Prices are good and the service is friendly.
The food is OK, not amazing, but the hygiene scares me. I ordered chicken teriyaki and then watched in disbelief as the guy in the back dropped the chicken onto a pile of crumbs on his cutting board and then cut it with the same knife he'd just used to slice a breaded piece. I'm allergic to wheat but no one understood what I was asking for when I explained that I wanted a piece cut on a clean board with a clean knife. The manager finally got it but shrugged his shoulders and said that wheat is everywhere. Last time I eat there.
a MASSIVE rip off!! Chicken katsu curry £6.40! And it was very mediocre, too much rice, not enough sauce, no garnish and generally lacking flavour. City Kitchen's microwave version from Tesco is better that this.
