The giant coffee roaster immediately catches your eye as you enter this neat little Shoreditch coffee shop. A combination of wooden tables and communal bar seating gives an informal charm to the place.

The New Zealand baristas take good coffee seriously: come on Mondays or Thursdays to see the roaster in action, purchase a bespoke blend or learn how to make 'The Perfect Cup' in a masterclass. Allpress also uses only Fairtrade coffee bought directly from growers. A full-bodied flat white had good textured foam, and the Costa Rican espresso from the La Marzocco machine was perfection.

Salmon toast came with a hearty gherkin, incredible horseradish cream cheese and a lemon wedge. Locals receive a personal welcome, and a few felt so at home they even wheeled in their bikes to pick up a coffee. Breakfast, cake and sandwiches are available - or you could just have another cup of coffee.

Coffee was just ok, not great. The milk being paired w the espresso drinks wasnt the best match and the brewed cup (Guatemala) was just a bit under extracted. Food - the corned beef sandwhich and eccles cake - were delicious and the highlights.

Allpress is the nearest coffee shop for me so I really tried to like it. But the girls behind the bar really need to improve their customer service skills! I ask myself everytime when I leave the shop who has recruited these people!! I have to say that the girl with the Eiffel Tower tattoo is really nice, but the rest... I never heard "hello", "thank you" or anything else from the others. They just place your coffee (take away) on the bar when its finished, without a word or a smile.

Great coffee... Great staff all bar the one older lady who was particularly rude with a huge attitude. Shame she let the rest of the girls down. There are many coffee shops in the area and she's given me and I'm sure many others a good reason not to return. Not so bad now but given the area they can be sure the hype will run down!

I just love Allpress... they are currently closed for christmas and im really missing the place. The staff make it what it is... the little red head dani and blonde gemma really make the place what it is. Calling people by name and teasing the locals. Mixed plate is AMAZING with egg, avo, ham, cheese, tom and some mixed toast. Another favourite is the stufffed mushrooms. Allpress we have been waiting a long time for you! Im a yoga teacher around the corner and so happy its only a little walk for great coffee, service and a smile!

Beautiful coffee shop and the roastery in the same room only adds to it. Minimalist wooden furniture and fresh coffee just go so well together. Coffee tastes great in the cafe as well as at home if you buy some beans or ground coffee. Did not try sandwiches, but looked good.
I don't get dboy's comment about the ongoing gentrification of Redchurch Street. Its not a Pret, not an Eat and the coffee is superb. And it has soul! Before so-called 'gentrification', Redchurch Street was just another pitiful alley of same, same, sad boozers and unappealing fake leather shops. But each to their own...

Agree with dboy, Customer service needs improvement..so sorry if we dont get the fancy names for a cheese toastie, at £4 really disappointing , when I asked what it was told it was a "style of sandwhich"...its a toastie... !!
Ambience and look is great , and I agree that it makes a change to see people talking and reading , not staring into a screen which takes up the whole table. However , with that staff attitude, wont be going back..

I love Allpress and have to disagree with the comment below about not having wifi.. I'm tired of seeing mac books on every table and people treating social spaces like an office.
Also to call it drip coffee this person doesnt have the taste buds to comment.

Sandwiches are great, if not on the expensive side but staff told me everything is sourced from the best and this will obviously reflect in the price! I'm happy to pay extra to not eat cheddar on hovis white bread.

Ridiculously, they've discontinued the wifi. I don't mind paying 2.90 for a cup of drip coffee, as long as I can get some work done, but really, this is terrible customer service. What's the point of all the comfy seating if one cannot whip out one's computer? I'm very disappointed.

I did enjoy coming here as i just live a few doors down, the coffee tastes great but the amount you get is ridiculous in comparison to the price you pay, but we are all hipsters and put up with it. While waiting in the queue today I ripped my £5 note by accident and asked if they could just tape it and they refused. I could have paid by card but a taped note is still just as valid and as a regular i decided that they should have no more of my custom, the next shop down the road didn't mind and shall be henceforth my place of choice. Thankfully this area is beautifully gentrified so it wasn't a long walk to find another overpriced coffeeshop.

Worth a visit, as a non-londoner, I like the quirkiness, yet, smart presentation of Allpress. I know there are probably hundreds of independents that deserve my patronage, but the staff were friendly, it is clean and bright. The on-site coffee roaster is pretty cool too... As far as the coffee goes, it's London, you pays what you gets... if you like coffee, go to Allpress, if you like milk and syrup, with a single weak, poorly extracted coffee shot waved at it, then by all means, hit the starbucks.
Well run, and good coffee drinking staff, so at least they like what they serve!

£2.50 for a take away coffee that tastes as good as it gets is cheap in my mind considering down the road at your chain franchise you pay £2.20 for the same size but get more milk and hazelnut flavouring than anything else... The staff are friendly, funny and enjoy themselves. The food is equally good.

Anything to break the Square Mile monoculture! The kiwi roasters are where it's at.

Another step towards the inevitable 'homogen-ification' and depersonalisation of redchurch street. However this identity-stripper comes with its own side of smug superiority and a g2 supplement in the hand. "what comes with the mixed breakfast smoked salmon and petit suisse?" "its pronounced smoked salmon mixed breakfast WITH petit suisse. and thats what it is" wow, like a told-off schoolboy, i thought id try asking the next robot i found behind the counter, i didn't wait long enough though.... deadpan, she replies. "like she's JUST explained to you, its a smoked salmon mixed breakfast." "ok" i ran for the only available seat. I like surprises anyway. The smoked salmon breakfast was smoked salmon, gherkins and tomato. Obviously. How silly of me. 10 pounds down, still hungry, i fancy the soft boiled eggs. i daren't ask what they come with.... they came with soldiers - yay, but at £4.50 i hope someone's gonna dip them in and feed them to me. as soon as I'm done one of the soulless coffee minion-bees buzzes around looking and asking whether we want to stay. OK, i get the picture. But i havent even had the chance to discuss how awful the situation is in Haiti yet, or even who my favourite beatnick is! o well, that'll have to wait til next time.
