Anderson & Co is the latest in a recent wave of decent local cafés in the increasingly arty neighbourhood that is the posh end of Peckham.
It's perched among the eclectic independent shops on Bellenden Road, and its styling is a cross between Hayward Gallery installation (stark white walls and tables under a constellation of dangling white light bulbs) and Santa's grotto (a servery façade of sawn birch logs and green LED lights).
The coffee (Square Mile beans) was excellent, the Teapigs teas delicious and the food was well-sourced and wholesome. Breakfast was a simple affair: eggs on toast (poached or scrambled) with a choice of bacon, chorizo or smoked salmon.
Blackbird Bakery's wonderful breads and pastries were supplemented with an unusual array of own-made cakes, including (on a recent visit) butterscotch tarts with a smoked sea salt, wheat and oat crust, a moreish courgette cake with lemon curd and crème fraiche, or gooey banana cake with caramel icing.
Lunches are tasty and light, such as smoked mackerel with couscous, hazelnuts and broccoli, or roast chicken spiced with za'atar and sumac, served with salad, garlic yoghurt and almonds.
Owner Lisa Anderson is a music business veteran with a passion for food and she's already lined up a roster of late Wednesday evening dates with guest chefs - £20 for three courses, bring your own booze.

Lunch for two with drinks and service: around £22
Food is nice but WORST service ever. Slow, rude...such a waste of a potentially nice place.
Had a delicious lunch there yesterday and left with a very nice bit of aged Gouda and a jar of mustard fruits! Where else in Peckham can you do that?
It's smart inside without being overly smart, the lady that runs it is evidently passionate about good food and friendly. I can see it becoming a fairly regular haunt.
i came across this cafe a few weeks ago before reading the review and decided to check it out as it looked really nice. between me and my fiance we had a few flat whites and hot chocolates, an asian chicken main with rice, and a courgette cake. everything was really delicious - my fiance was very sceptical about the cake but agreed it was great. the prices were really reasonable as well, i think it was around £10 total.
we were actually walking down the street as we're considering moving to the area, and if i lived nearby i would definitely come here frequently!
Delicious, well cooked, good quality food. Very good value.
