At first sight, the Everest appears to be another neon blot on the charmless A20 corridor, but enlightened locals beg to differ. What this no-frills café and takeaway lacks in comfort, it makes up for in tasty Sri Lankan and South Indian grub, endorsed by a steady stream of local Asians. Choose from a display of 15 curries, and the staff will give your dishes an unabashed whizz in the microwave. We opted for the rice-and-three: a delicate dahl, a chunky jackfish curry, and an eye-wateringly spicy chickpea stew, all served with a generous helping of Ceylon pittu. 'Best place in Lewisham,' said one local Indophile with an enormous smile on his face. So good you'll barely notice the complete absence of booze.

Good value Sri Lankan food. If you’ve not eaten authentic Sri Lankan .., its not the same as high street indian food, so ask for mild. Else, you’ll need an asbestos lined mouth. Try the fish and vegetable dishes. I regularly stop off to pick up a box.
My favourite local take away. Authentic Jaffna food. friendly staff. Looking to offer excellent service. A must try for anyone with a 'I love curry' palate...
