Jamie Oliver isn't the only one to love George's, a local landmark since 1961 that still pulls in punters of all ages (last time we visited, the Chelsea FC youth team was lining up outside for a post-training feed). It's a cramped but cheerful space more akin to an American diner than a traditional English chippie. Cod, skate and haddock all come fresh from Billingsgate and are battered to perfection, although we felt our anaemic looking thick-cut chips could have done with a minute or two more in the fryer. The sweet and meltingly textured mushy peas would please even the most discerning palate, but purists may pale at the range of less traditional treats on offer - from spare ribs to döner kebabs.
