NB on September 19 Story Deli moves again to 3 Redchurch Street, E2.
The original Story Deli was in Dray Walk off Brick Lane, and was a strong east London contender in our last knockout contest to find the London's best pizza. Story Deli has now left the Old Truman Brewery and relocated slightly north to a much smaller, more intimate space at the Bethnal Green Road end of Sclater Street.
Although the new location lacks the huge windows and outdoor tables on Dray Walk that made its previous home such a popular weekend people-watching destination, the new Story Deli has the same mobile-like hanging decorations made of found objects, quirky collages decorate the walls, candle-lit tables are shared - it still feels like an artist's studio.
The menu is exactly the same too: super-thin, crispbread-like pizzas (they stretch the definition of what a pizza can be) finished with a smear of good sauce, some quality organic ingredients and a grating of parmesan. A topping of rich goat's cheese went well with red onion and fig and olive tapenade, and we also enjoyed another pizza topped with salty Italian ham and lots of rocket.
Story Deli is now unlicensed - although you can take your own beer or wine, with no corkage charge. Plus, there are no toilets, making it more of a quick stop than somewhere to linger. But on the plus side, all traces of the haughty service that was a feature of the old place are gone - we found the service personable and pretension-free. If pizza's not your thing there's not much else, but cakes and coffee are available for afters.

Meals served noon-10pm daily
Main courses £10-£15
Facilities
Babies and children welcome ( high chairs; toys ), Takeaway serviceorganic flat and round bread for £15, not for me again, I would rather have an Italian pizza.
Really liked the place. Ordered a pizza, and got it for free, because it was the first of the day, and they insisted on not paying for it as it would give them bad luck otherwise... Hehe, fun place!
no quite sure what the fuss is, and I am not sure why they call this "pizza". Very expensive for what is not a pizza but an idea and I guess being location they can charge £15 for their popadom style pizza on a wooden plate, along the one or two tables they have customers have to spend £15 per head min.....
if you enjoy pizza's and know pizza's then dont' go here.
for great pizza
Papegone ( finsbury Park )
Spaca Napoli ( oxford street )
Napule' ( fulham )
rosso pomodoro ( west end)
Trattoria Sapori ( stoke newington )
This place really tears me in two directions. It's possibly the best pizza in London but it price tag means you'll probably only go there once. Pizza should always be as good as this but it's always traditionally street food. If they pulled it down to £10 a pizza I think the queue would be round the corner.
I'm still furious that a can of sub-standard Coke was £3, I don't give a shit if it's organic.
Decent pizzas but not overwhelming, and they may be organic but they're still overpriced.
Nothing justifies the £15 price tag for a decent pizza. And £10 for the few leaves that they call mixed salad? They're clearly taking the piss. Go there if you want to be ripped off.
the fact that time out gave this 3 stars, makes me not trust a single thing you people have to say from here on in. this is the best pizza i have ever experienced bar none.
This is a beautiful little place with amazing pizza - easily the best in London.
Very quirky decor, and the man running the place/cooking was lovely when I was there.
Knocked my socks off. And the folks that run the joint are lovely.
Excellent tasty pizza's in a relaxing and unique setting.
Highly recommended, crispy base pizza's with a choice of tasty unusual toppings and great drinks.
The best Pizza I have ever had....wow =) definately worth a visit, I thought pizza east was good until I found this gem. Dunno why im writing this tho as this place needs to be kept secrect if you know what i mean =)
The best pizza ever!!!! Loved it!!!! you have to go and try one!!!!
really good pizza, by far the best in the area. (pizza east pizza's are just awful and duo sardi, well I dont know what it is but it isnt a restaurant and their pizza's are far too oily a bit like Strada /dont tell me you like that!)
This one is a bit more expensive though but its worth it, really unique style. Im an instant fan of the dough, very very thin but still crispy, all the toppings seemed to be well balanced.
I love the new location in 64 Scletor str off Bethnal Green Road , they have great ideas in recycling , very good food , I LOVE THE CHAIRS
