Open until 4am every day, HK Diner is a favourite with students, the post-clubbing crowd and chef Jun Tanaka. It's charming, in a cheerful greasy-spoon kind of way. The café-style food is consistently decent, and some waiters aren't immune to smiles and a little banter. But the real stars are the impeccably shaken bubble teas; for just £3.30 a pop, the HK original, black sesame or Japanese grape will send you straight to tapioca heaven. Have back-up choices in mind, though, as certain flavours are apt to run out. And watch out for the minimum £6 a head charge.

Love love love this place, best char sui in all of London, staff always happy to make off the menu items for us (if you can't decide between wanton or BBQ pork noodle soup not a problem they will do both in the same bowl - heaven!)
Hot pots are also delicious especially the Monks Tofu Hotpot YUMMO

I love this restaurant! I went there with friends last night and it was so busy with English and Chinese alike. The atmosphere was great, and the food.... WOW, it was the most authentic I have tasted and I AM Chinese! You must have the melt in the mouth fillet steak and Portuguese baked rice with pork chops. And don't forget the starter of steamed scollops.. I really don't understand the people who wrote negative reviews, the service I received was courteous and efficient.if you want all the fake smiles from some restaurants and get ripped off at the same time then don't come here! I will be coming here for Chinese meals from now on.

Come here for lunch every week. Its great. Really good food. Never have had problem with service. Good price. The best in Chinatown.
As for the negative reviews...Athina, a restaurant is not a place for you to sit and do interviews once you've finished eating. Angie C Chinese hospitality in China Town is not like the OTT service you get in the States!

i used to go a lot in this restaurant but after their behaviour yesterday i will never go back again and i recommend no one to go. i will boycott this place everyone to everybody when i have the chance.
I am from Greece and i am a student so for 1 year i was always going to this restaurant yesterday though I and my two friends that we were there face a very bad behaviour. After making a bill of 69 pounds we stayed longer because i wanted to interview one of my friends. the interview last 10 minutes and during these minute all the waiters were passing through our table and looking at as directly like saying it’s time for you to leave. The last minute of my interview one waiter came and told us that they need the table with an impolite attitude even though they were empty tables around us. He did not have the right to do that so we left telling them that we will never come back. No one should go to this restaurant again they do not know how to run a business they are rude and they do not deserve our money.

i had a more-than-terrible experience at HK diner last night and I have to tell everyone the experience and I will forever boycott this restaurant because of the owner's mean and rude attitude and service; this restaurant doesn't deserve any star or doesn't even deserve to stay in business.
I am from the United States and am visiting here. I always explore chinatown in every country and city. My two friends and I walked into HK Diner, a waiter guy wanted to sit us at a round table but we spotted a round booth so we asked for it; then this man who looked like the owner came and was unwilling to sit us there but told us that we needed to order a min of 6 pounds per person of food; we ok'ed it (although this min charge was not found or written anywhere in the restaurant or on menu); for 10 mins nobody came to us to take order; then the owner came back and rudely questioned us about what food we wanted to order; i said we were gonna order drinks first then we'd look at the menu; he immediately walked away; nobody took our order; then shortly after that, a waiter guy moved us to a very small booth for 2 ppl; it was 3 of us; we had to squeeze in; we did anyway; then the mean owner came to take our order; we said the same thing and said we might order takeouts later; he lost his patience and said loudly and rudely in cantonese "you guys wanna sit at MY table, you have to order food first; i will have to charge £18 for this table whether you order food or not and takeouts don't count;" wow, at that point, i lost my patience too; i said loudly but calmly to him, "we are leaving; we have money to pay and that's not the way to run a business; you are not the only restaurant in chinatown here" the whole restaurant heard it; i heard him saying behind us with a quieter tone "well, it's up to you then" i bet he didn't expect us to talk back and walk out on him; apparently he always got his way and nobody ever said anything back to him; well, i'm not gonna let this go easily; i have to tell the whole world about his terrible attitude..
first, he just assumed that we wouldn't order food as soon as we walked in; that's not right!
second, he told us we needed to order food and there's a minimum per person; that's not right! there's no printed policy anywhere in the restaurant; he just applied that towards us!
it's a restaurant, as long as the doors are open, customers have all the right to sit in and order whatever they want; plus we had been super friendly since we walked in and we had been very patient with his improper manner and unreasonable treatment..
he got us very mad for just £18; now he's going to lose a lot more money than this..
