This pair of dining rooms recreates a classic bistro look for its clientele of well-heeled locals. Parisian prints, white tablecloths, mirrors and draped curtains set the scene for some traditional French cooking. Evenings are well populated, but on our Saturday daytime visit, the restaurant was almost empty - and yet the vibe remained relaxed and the French service team friendly and low-key.
Dishes varied in quality. Smoked duck breast, although tender and well matched with apple and celeriac remoulade, was let down by a shortfall of shredded apple. Cream of pea soup was too heavy in texture for a first course. Things picked up with mains. Succulent steak, accompanied by a plump, wine- and stock-braised shallot, and crisp chips, was outstanding for its sticky reduction of thyme-infused jus. Almost as impressive, fried sea bream fillet topped with buttery brown shrimps was tastefully contrasted with the salty bite of samphire. Desserts are star performers. Our favourite: dinky profiteroles filled with custardy cream, served with full-flavoured coffee ice-cream and warm caramel sauce. Despite occasional hiccups, this neighbourhood gem is great value.

Facilities
Babies and children welcome ( high chairs; nappy-changing facilities ), Booking advisable, Separate room for parties ( seats 30 ), Available for hireWent saturday night. The food was very good, but to charge £3.50 for a TINY portion
of gratin dauphinois or FEW chips in a bowl is excessive considering the price of
dishes. The service is very unprofessionnel, waiters do not understand what we ask
for. Sad because the decor is lovely, the cuisine is good, not over the top.
I am not sure I'll shall go again.
Despite living really close to this restaurant i'd never actually visited it until about a month ago, when a friend took me. In the last few weeks i've been 3 times, and am a huge fan of the food. Particular favourite is the rib eye and shallots - it was cooked to perfection (which for me was medium-rare) and i think it was worth every penny.
Food ok and service indifferent. A disappointing experience. I'm afraid french fries were the highlight.
We visited for one of the special events - the annual truffle dinner - before Christmas and everyone in our group had a super evening - beautiful food, with equally stunning matched wines. Definitely one of the highlights of last year.
