As this popular corner pub is located on a road better known for its high-end design shops and auction house, with plush Chelsea Harbour opposite, you might expect the place to be more expensive and pretentious than it is.

The menu focuses on British pub classics done well, if not exceptionally so. Sausage and mash comes in a generous portion, with rich onion gravy, but perhaps not the world's most flavoursome bangers. Starters are also pretty large; size-wise, there wasn't much difference between a smoked mackerel starter (a plump fillet piled on fennel, potatoes and leaves) and our chicken salad main. There's also a roast on Sundays and a £10 set menu on Mondays, with a few more restaurant-style dishes available each day. Desserts are simple but well selected - salted caramel ice-cream was sublime.

Tables are laid out in a U-shape around the bar; it can get very noisy towards the back. Customers come to drink as much as eat here, with the likes of Doom Bar bitter and Aspall cider on tap. The wine list provides recommendations, Amazon website-style, for those who like pinot grigio or cabernet sauvignon, encouraging drinkers to branch out from their favourites.
