The residents of Willesden come back time and again to enjoy Sushi-Say's quality Japanese food. However, the casual visitor should beware: this means the place is usually full, so booking is recommended.
The narrow restaurant has three areas divided by black slatted screens: a glass sushi counter at the front, cream dining room in the middle and a traditional tatami room for larger groups at the back.
The jolly sushi chef turns out perfectly fresh and generously proportioned sashimi and nigiri toppings; our yellowtail and scallop nigiri didn't disappoint. From the kitchen, a kinpira gobo (sautéed shredded burdock and carrot) had just the right balance of sweet and savoury, while the tempura udon saw crisp tempura prawns and vegetables atop chewy noodles and a warming broth.
If you have room for dessert, choose from the interesting own-made ice-creams with flavours that include green tea, sesame, chestnut and wasabi - we weren't entirely sold on the last one. Regular patrons can buy whole bottles of saké and keep them behind the bar, but the drink is also offered in small flasks. Service on our Sunday night visit was well meaning, though not as efficient as on previous occasions.

Many happy Sundays spent heading to Sushi-Say for lunch, a warm welcome and excellent food for a very reasonable price.
I just ate the Tempura Udon as the reviewer describes and its the best I've tasted - and I've been to Japan. The broth was so tasty and the batter so crispy. Also I had the seafood dumplings - also delicious. I was by myself and walked in off the street at 7pm and got a stool seat, but had to be out by 8pm because of another booking, but service was very fast. The 2 dishes and a Asahi costed 20 pounds.
Food's good, similar to other central London restaurants.
The service experience not so good, rude staff, very expensive, experience not good,
the food certainly isn't so amazing that it makes it acceptable to treat customers in this fashion.
Very disappointed with the service. Rather unfortunate. As suggested by other reviews, I will not question the level of food they offer. However, I would like to point out that the service level is sub-standard and I have never encountered such a rude service in my foodie career.
We visited the restaurant other day and one of the order did not come for a long time. The waiter was apologetic, but a moment later a very abrasive floor manager who is wearing Kimono started to argue in very unpleasant way.
The attitude of the manager is unacceptable for the price you have to pay. Frankly speaking there are equivalent Sushi restaurant in the central London at similar price range and enjoy respectable service.
I have been going to Sushi-Say for years now and it is still, I think, the best sushi place in London.
I have traveled all over Japan and what you get in Sushi-say is very close to what you get over there.
I always look forward to going to eat there but you will need to book in advance, as it is very popular.
I hope this review helps! Enjoy!
