Unlike its Greenwich outpost, the Blackheath Village branch of Buenos Aires is more restaurant than café, with large windows offering spectacular views across the heath.
There are tables outside, on the ground floor or in the more intimate first-floor dining room (a suntrap when we arrived at sunset). Stripped floors and whitewashed walls covered in framed photos and prints add to the warmth.
Argentina's large Italian immigrant population has shaped the country's cuisine, which is reflected in the menu here. Pizza and pasta are given nearly as much space as beef.
There's plenty of choice for vegetarians, although we found the wild mushroom ravioli to be light on mushroom flavour and the pasta itself a little too thick. As for the meat, a pallid beef, pork, bacon and white wine sausage seemed poached rather than grilled, and made an unremarkable starter.
In contrast, the ribeye (from grass-fed, free-range Argentinian cattle) that followed was perfectly cooked and as flavourful as the menu promised. Pair it with one of the fine malbecs from the predominantly Argentinian wine list.
Service was generally attentive, if occasionally forgetful. No matter: the restaurant's charm, coupled with the high-quality food, is enough to warrant repeat visits.

Tables outdoors ( 4, pavement ), Babies and children welcome ( booster seats ), Booking essential, Available for hireThink Gaucho Grill but with better meat, friendlier service and the complete avoidance of pretention. It is not a large restaurant but always full, which adds to the atmosphere. I have been there with my family (including 3 young children) a night out with a large group of friendly but lively blokes and for an intimate dinner with my wife. I have yet to be disappointed with either the food or the service.
My wife and I had a fantastic meal here last night. Service was really friendly and the steaks amazing. We had a very reasonably priced carafe of Merlot and we thought the whole experience was faultless. I have been looking for years for a steakhouse that can cook a steak how I like it and now I have found it. 10/10
After making a reservation yesterday we turned up this evening only to be told no reservation was made. There was no apologies and was treated as if it was my fault. There happened to be an available table downstairs which we took as we were meeting people at the restaurant. The waitress was friendly enough and our food was tastey apart from my steak was overcooked. I really expected something special from this place but turned out to be distinctly average.
What a great place! We went there on Saturday evening and were lucky enough to nab the last available table. The restaurant itself is cosy and welcoming with a nice buzzy atmosphere, and the staff are friendly, efficient and accommodating. We had a bottle of gorgeous Malbec from the house winelist along with the £40 steak platter which was among the best steak I've ever eaten. The home-made Chimichurri sauce and Aioli that we had with the steak were amazing and our side orders of tomato & onion salad and fries were plentiful and tasty. We can't wait to go back!
