Chef-proprietor Adam Byatt opened Trinity in 2006 to a string of hugely positive reviews; now the restaurant is even better. On our last two visits, we were wowed by the cheery atmosphere, charming service and stunning food.
A starter with the terse description 'chicken dumplings, sweetcorn, tarragon' didn't do justice to the delicate quenelles of chicken mousse, one rolled in very fine black soot to render it charcoal black. The dabs and squiggles of tarragon pesto on the dark Vera Wang plates also gave a very striking effect. Main courses showed further creativity: just-cooked cod, the skin seared crisp, on a very buttery potato fondant with a moat of white gazpacho and fresh, hand-shelled almonds. To underline the Spanish inspiration of this dish, migas (Spanish-style fried breadcrumbs) garnished the side.
A seam of butter ran through the menu, as Trinity makes its own - and very good it is too. Béarnaise sauce was served with some nicely carved bavette and a huge chunk of bone marrow, encased in thighbone the size of a pepper mill.
The wine list is also more than up to scratch, and the setting is unassuming yet classy (white walls and table linen creating a look of simple elegance). Absolutely everyone on our dinner visit was having a ball - not always the case in some high-minded restaurants - and Sunday lunch was fabulous too. If you've not yet been here, make sure that Trinity's on your wish list.

Facilities
Babies and children admitted, Booking essential, Available for hire, Disabled ( toilet )Hope they treat their customers better than they treat the local community. Their bins are on the edge if the Common and always surrounded with rotten food, soiled packaging, last week it was loads of their menus blowing around in the wind. Yucch.
Superb meal and service. The staff were friendly and accommodating, and there was a lovely relaxed atmosphere when we went (on a Saturday night). Could not fault it!
When the food was good it was absurdly good. The pigs trotter starter, crab ravioli starter and poached pear with chocolate desert being cases in point. The cheese board was also very accomplished.
However I left feeling slightly underwhelmed as neither of the mains quite hit the spot. My girlfriend liked but did love the veal, but my beef was just too over seasoned and saltier than the sea. I probably should have voiced my concern but the slightly stuffy foodie atmosphere meant I kept schtum, preferring to leave most of it, which at these prices is a travesty!
Regards atmosphere, I found it a bit dry. My girlfriend who had visited before in the week commented that it was a little lacklustre, so maybe it was just a quite Friday night. Or mabye we’re too young (ie below 30) for the target market at the weekend.
On another note service was slighlty mixed. At one point I tried to top up my wine to be beaten back by an over fussy waiter but by the end of the night, we sat for ages trying to get the bill paid etc.
Either way despite some fantastic highlights I’m not sure I’ll be rushing back.
Found the food to be good but incredibly over-priced and the staff stuffy and rigid. Also service was slow, had to wait over half an hour between starter and main on a monday night. Also charge you £2per person for 1 tiny bread roll, a bit cheeky I think.
The review states children and babies welcome. Possibly true if they make no noise at all and never move about! This restaurant is lovely, amazing food but my advice is not to go with children. Despite what they may say they are not truely welcome in my experience.
