Galapagos is the kind of place where neighbours drop by for a cuppa, couples come for a casual supper and lone diners feel at ease. The Ecuadorian owner makes everyone feel comfortable with his cheery chatter about current affairs and cultural differences.

The menu is a gallop across the globe, from the sunny tortilla of the Med, to a North African tagine with lots of cinnamon, to Indonesian nasi goreng (spicy rice with eggs and peanuts). We found the Asian dishes particularly successful, thanks to the long-standing chef from Burma; try the Burmese sweet and sour salad of tomatoes, onions, peanuts and roasted chickpea flour.

Puds too are a draw: all super-fresh, own-made and firmly European, from warm hazelnut cake to lush bread and butter pudding. And then there are the prices - £15.95 for a three-course dinner, plus decent wines with honest mark-ups. Fabulous.

Went for an early evening meal. Was a little concerned because the place was empty (filled up later), but the exceptionally friendly owner immediately made me feel at home. I'm a critical type and can honestly say it was the best meal I've had in a long time. Price and smiling service were a bonus.

There are lots of restaurants in London that look great but don't have great food. This is one of the rare examples of the opposite. It's very unprepossessing exterior belies excellent food at very reasonable prices. Definitely recommended (though not one to take your high maintenance girlfriend to)..

I concur with the previous two comments. A great place serving excellent food and offering good value for money - of paramount importance these days! A good example of the owners making the difference as they both serve 'front of house' and give a genuinely warm welcome to all guests.

This is our local which we are very happy about. Elaine and Steve are the nicest people who serve consistently brilliant food at a very reasonable price. It"s outstanding!
