This riverside pub has much to recommend it: fabulous Thames views from the terrace, great history (Emma Hamilton and Nelson may have trysted here), a convivial vibe, decent beer (including ale from Dark Star and Adnams) and imaginative cooking.

Even so, our latest visit was disappointing: service was friendly but inattentive (we were offered only the dinner menu, though the cheaper pub menu included an extremely popular burger); specials weren't pointed out, despite the board offering the likes of grouse (shot on the Glorious 12th); and, despite waiting almost 40 minutes for a smoked trout, the fish arrived fridge-cold and meagre.

A small fillet was presented atop lettuce and Jersey royals, with a couple of green beans and half a quail's egg. To follow, a much-anticipated 35-day-aged Angus ribeye was too fatty and, though accurately cooked, offered few choice mouthfuls. This came with good twice-fried chips, over-buttery and under-vinegared béarnaise and a pile of undressed watercress; it cost £27.

We've eaten better here, and feel sure our experience was an aberration as the terrace and dining room were both busy on a Sunday night. On form, the Gun is a pub we'd love to have as our local.

We went here for our Christmas and historic meals on this occasion have learnt not too expect too much.

The gun was absolutely faultless. The atmosphere was charming, very relaxed which was exactly what we were looking for. The food was stunning (every course for all the diners at our table). I cannot praise the waiting staff enough, the effort was outstanding. I cannot receommended the Gun enough and cannot understand the rating that Time out have given as is definitely not reflective of the 5* service.

I organsied an evening at A Grelha - the Portuguese BBQ which is held on the beautiful sun terrace for myself and a large group of work colleagues for one of the last late summer evenings of September. Vanessa, the lady who co-ordinated the evening was so helpful, she couldn't do enough for us and was a pleasure to work with. The evening was so slick, something that is often promised but never fulfilled. From the amazing food (I thoroughly recommend the Chorizo!!) to the outdoor heaters AND blankets (great touch), the evening was run brilliantly. Can't wait to go back - thanks to all the brilliant staff!

We went there for a sunday lunch and were kindly proposed a table on the terrace overlooking the river. The service was excellent, and the pork belly delicious. Strongly recommended.

Ate here with my partner last week and had a lovely dinner. Service was good, menu was interesting. My fish main course was delicious - the chefs go and choose the fish each morning at the local Billingsgate Market apparently. By boyfriend seemed to inhale his lamb he enjoyed it so much. In the summer there is a lovely riverside area on the opposite side of the riverbank to the O2, had drinks there last summer and felt a little bit like a retreat out of the city.
