Along with nearby Tayyabs - opened by an uncle of Lahore's founder - and Needoo, this Pakistani grill forms the sacred trinity of Whitechapel curry houses. Those who have woken up to the uniform blandness of Brick Lane's restaurants flock here to discover the typically fiery and exuberant dishes of the Punjab that it has been cooking for more than 40 years.
You'll usually have to queue; diners pack into tables over two floors, as industrious waiters ferry huge trays of karahi serving dishes. Music is loud, TV screens are permanently on, the crowd is often in party mood: it's not subtle, but it's very cheap and the food is cracking.
We've found dishes to be much spicier than elsewhere in the area. Starters, such as barbecued chicken leg, moist seekh kebabs or deep-fried cassava chips, are great to share; tandoori bread is perfectly puffy and buttery.
The adventurous can avoid the more common curries and work their way through the uncompromising specials: nihari, with slow-cooked lamb shanks; chicken curry served on the bone; or paya - spiced sheep's trotters. We imagine we'll still be praising LKH in another 40 years' time.

After lots of people recommending us this place, we finally went yesterday with 2 couples of friends and our experience was really bad. We got a table in the second floor, and it was stressing and disturbing. The ambiance is terribly cold and beyond noisy. The food is ok, nothing special though, it didn't taste or look special. I guess our first impression it was a lack of hygiene. All glasses on the table were dirty and the jar of the mango lassi had still a label on (which means, they didn't even wash the jar before using it!). The order was wrong and we got charged wrongly as well. When we were finishing our meal, our table neighbours left: it was the end, we were practically in hell. A waiter was throwing plates and cutlery, making food left overs fall all over the place and so noisy that we only wanted to get the bill and leave. This guy leaved both tables next to us in such a messy state, with food everywhere. It was really disgusting specially if you are still eating.
I am normally quite open and an easygoing person. But the experience at Lahore was not only bad but very unpleasant. Therefore I wont recommend anyone to go there.
Bit of a nightmare. Upstairs is so loud you can't hear the people at your own table. It took literally one hour after ordering for our food to arrive on a Thursday night. The order was wrong but who dares ask for corrections when their pace is so slow? The food was very good when we finally got it, especially lamb chops, naan, curry prawns, etc.
The best value meal in London. Don't book . Go early in the evening to be sure of a table. It's BYO but the Cote du Rhone in the offie next door is very good for £8. Starters: lamb chops & Tandoori fish. For mains look no further than the prawn curry with Pilau rice . The plain Nan is the best I have ever had. Sublime. There is much more on the menu but avoid the obvious. All for about £30. I'm a good cook & I eat out a lot. This place is in my top three of the best our great city has to offer. It's cheap, the decor is simple, the food is fantastic, the loos clean. Providing you know good food when you taste it then go! £30 for 2 to 3 people! I've paid so much more for so much worse.
I went there on a for a pre stag. First time I there no waiting, waiters were ok and the kebabs and chops were very tasty.
We have been here twice now and will never go again. The first time we went the food was well below standard. The second time we booked a table for 8pm. When we got there we were told they were too busy to honour our booking. The manager was arrogant and couldnt have cared less that we had actually booked a table. In fact he was nothing short of rude. There are much better Pakistani restaurants in the area. TOTALLY OVERRATED
Food was cheap and tasty, but the set up is a nightmare. Went earlyish Friday night, was told there was a "15 minute" wait but ended up waiting for an hour and even then we only got a table after constantly asking the bloke about it - no queuing system in place, just people everywhere. My butter chicken was very very spicy and, when I asked them to put something in it to make it milder, they brought me out what seemed to be a totally different curry - it was delicious though. Loads of people waiting around and the packed restaurant meant there was loads of noise - not the most relaxing dining experience! - and the waiters weren't friendly at all (pretty much like Tayyabs). But I must admit the lamp chops were very tasty, and the food is brilliant value.
really pleased we went here, cant believe how much food we got and how cheap it was,it was beautiful.
