Bob Bob Ricard sounds fun, but, most importantly, it is fun. It has turquoise booth seating, art nouveau styling, sub-Arctic vodka shots, very proper English afternoon tea, and a whole host of other eccentricities that shouldn't work together, but, one way or another, definitely, defiantly, do.

Self-professed 'luxury' brands often verge on the starchy, but not so here. If anything, it's high-end trashy - as attested by the presence of a champagne button by each table: a temptingly decadent way to place an order.

Top-notch wines and fizz are encouragingly priced (somewhat bizarrely, the drinks menu price-matches against notable London restaurants), food somewhat less so, primarily because the portions are fairly modest.

Yet the menu is lengthy and strikingly characterful, encompassing chicken kiev and that lesser-spotted Russian speciality, jellied ox tongue, as well as legions of tamer choices, such as roast leg of lamb with caramelised onions and 'old Bay' crispy fried chicken, spiced and served with coleslaw.

This singularly eclectic mix of Russian and English dishes is served from lunch through to closing without pause, making it a surprising - and surprisingly useful - find in the heart of Soho.

I never normally write reviews but had to for Bob Bob Ricard...had been there several times for cocktails in the basement bar which is excellent. Ate there for the first time a few weeks ago and had a fantastic evening in fun, classy yet unpretentious surroundings. Chicken pie was so so good, as were the starters (truffley potato dumplings..yum), and we had a melting golden ball of chocolate for dessert which was as fun as it sounds! What really stood out was the service which was outstanding. Now my favourite place to eat in London!!

Very enjoyable place with fantastic atmosphere and attentive service. The strawberry souffle and the rhubarb gin and tonic are highly recommended! Well worth putting your sunday best on for.

Visited in October 2010. Just the place to take the lover you don't yet know well, so much to distract . . . the champagne, the decor, the eclectic menu. The fine locally sourced produce. Now you have something in common, you went to BBR.

We booked a table for 4 for a birthday dinner and were blown away with the style, food and service. The staff are outstanding, the food fabulous and the ambience senstational. I will be going there again and taking all my overseas guests to show it off. And yes, the Press for Champagne button worked a treat, response was about 3 seconds! Keep up the great work BBR. cheers

Had a lovely time there last night. We arrived 30 minutes early and were made to feel very welcome. The seating arrrangement for the four of us was excellent, the food and wine delicious and service attentive and timely. If you are on a tight budget then might seem a tad expensive but if you are happy with approx £50 per head for three courses plus wine then you will have a lovely time. Based on one experience, thoroughly recommended.

I visited BBR again recently and had a really lovely time - great vibe, very good service, and delicious potted shrimp and a fresh lemon pot for dessert. Just right for summer. My guest also loved his veal holstein. I hear they are also doing a caviar deal at the moment, which sounds hard to resist to escape the blues.
The next day I went to Dean St Townhouse, which to be honest had horrid food (overcooked) and shambolic service and tables crammed together.
So, if you're in Soho I would recommend BBR every time as a much more enjoyable experience!

Loving this place. Food always exceeds expectations, especially desserts and afternoon tea which I reckon is better even than Claridges. WIne list is impressive but they also do some really delicious and inventive cocktails including non alcoholic ones. Service is attentive without being pushy and there is always a really lovely atmosphere - buzzy but welcoming and lots of fun - its really private too as everyone gets their own 'booth'. It just feels so luxurious and over the top and indulgent - who wouldn't want a piece of that?! Has become one of my favourites when in Soho. Highly recomend.

This restaurant is billed as being child and baby friendly. That is NOT the case. I've just tried to book a table for seven, including a two and a half year old to be told they don't accept children below 10. Hardly 'child and baby friendly' is it? Please amend your details they are extremely misleading.

For my wife's birthday I decided to spoil her with some very special wine and champagne. I've read before about their keen prices on famous wines and having checked their wine list on-line I booked our dinner. I did not quite know what to expect, but the place turned out to be so much more! The room was like a glamourous film set from the 1930s and our booth was like something off the Orient Express. The service was very friendly and efficient, the wine superlative, but what most impressed my wife was the food and the many light and seasonal options like steamed asparagus and Eaton mess with fresh English strawberries. And my special of crispy belly pork was to die for. It is certainly going on our list of regulars.

Fantastic wine list with many big-name wines three to four times less than other restaurants. They make a show of it by putting comparison prices in their wine list. The vintage Pol Roger (1999) is £15 a glass! Our Beef Wellington for four was epic, as our American guests put it. A perfect special occasion restaurant.

The food is good BUT portions are less than generous which make their prices that initially seemed about average, very high. It was very empty when we arrived for an early dinner and was stll pretty empty when we left, but that didn't stop the staff from hassling us to order, giving us dessert menus as soon as we'd eaten our last, teeny mouthfuls and generally trying to get us out as quickly as possible. Disappointing.

Bob Bob Ricard in Soho is beautiful, elegant, fun, delicious, nostalgic, decadent, cosy, brilliant… I could go on.

In fact I will.

There is a button in each booth for champagne. You won’t believe how much you want to press it.

Even the name of the restaurant is good. I heard it is named after the two owners, Bob and Ricard, but Bob has a two third share and Ricard has just the one. I hope that is a true story. The branding is beautiful and everywhere. It’s on the walls, in the mosaic flooring, and even on the hand churned butter portions.

Jay Rayner rates it highly. I completely agree with his review, and usually I can’t stand the man!

I’ll definately be going again.

Had a great evening at BBR to chase away the early January blues. Shots of vodka over Russian snacks such as jellied ox tongue, herring, cured pork lard and pelmeni (meat dumplings) got the meal off to a roaring start. Starters of lobster cocktail (they sub lobster for langoustine whenever they don't have langoustine in stock, which is virtually always!) and a meaty terrine were superb. The beef tea soup looked great too! For mains we enjoyed chicken kiev (the sweetcorn mash served with it was utterly delicious) and pig cheeks braised in port which were so tender and meaty and delicious that I've been dreaming of them ever since. As I have of the apple jelly dessert served with the most buttery shortbread rounds I've seen! And then there's the decor - flamboyant, kitsch and yet reminiscent of luxurious days long since gone, this is not somewhere for the faint hearted!

Lots of fun!
