Restaurant at St Paul's
If you're expecting a florid interior, the simplicity of the formal restaurant in the crypt of St Paul's Cathedral could prove a little disappointing. Vaulted ceilings and a bit of tapestry are the only elements suggesting church or history: otherwise, it's reminiscent of the sort of brasserie restaurants found in market towns - contemporary chairs and black placemats alongside heritage-green hues and a country dresser-style waiters' station.
However, that suits a menu that does its best to showcase the garden (or, rather, allotment) of England. Yes, there is a smattering of parmesan, olives and truffle, but the overall impression is of Suffolk bacon, heritage vegetables, farmhouse cheddar and cider.
Best of our dishes was a small tart of artichoke and watercress - a surprising combination that didn't resort to quiche-y custard to unify the differing textures of the veg. Grey mullet with apple, fennel and purple potato salad was a good tasting combination let down by undercooked potatoes.
Desserts suited the season: daintily presented fruit and cream concoctions, rather than rib-sticking puds. Service looked the part, but was less efficient than it could have been, and although the room was by no means full (a mix of quiet City workers and tourists), the wait for dishes was over-long.

Facilities
Babies and children welcome ( high chairs; nappy-changing facilities ), Booking advisable, Disabled ( lift; toilet )Just went for Mothers day; it was great, the restaurant is a lovely calming environment. Bellinis and appetisers were on the table as soon as we sat down. The food was interesting, plentiful and tasty. Service was good but unobtrusive. Highly recommended.
My family and I went on Sunday and it was one of the best lunchs I have ever had. The staff were wonderful, the food was delicious and the Crypts provided a beautiful setting. I would definitely go back again.
the staff were great, let down by the appalling food,i had a sunday roast, beef was almost cold, carrots and greens so salty i left them, ordered a side order of jersey royals with mint, was given roast potatoes, when i asked why,i was told chef does not do jersey royals on sundays !!! i would NOT recommend this place to any one
After having afternoon tea with a group of friends. We where all very let down by the quality of there scones. They where very hard on the outside and the middle in some where partly raw. I found that my clotted cream was more like whipped cream and really was not thick enough. The rest of the afternoon tea was great and the staff could not be more helpful. However as I only order tea & scones to have only tea that was OK is a big let down. I would not go back again I'm afraid
