A sizeable and lively bar, with pavement tables bending around a corner of Sloane Square, gives way to a smartly elegant restaurant (biscuit leather, 1920s-style chandeliers) with colourful yet restrained botanical wall art.
You can come for breakfast (a neat envelope of crêpe complete with golden yolks poking through the top, say, or crusty thick pancakes with blueberries and maple syrup) or afternoon tea (finger sandwiches, sultana scones with Suffolk jams and Devonshire clotted cream, Jing teas). A pre-theatre menu cherry-picks from the carte, offering a choice of three or four dishes for each course. Recipes range from simple (leek vinaigrette with soft-boiled quail egg and anchovy toast) to complex (confit duck ravioli with braised lentils and duck anise consommé), though some of the combinations are interesting rather than heavenly.
We weren't entirely convinced by the red wine-braised chicory accompanying delicate royal bream, especially once an Asian-style crab croquette and earthy monk's beard were added. Nor the peanut and whisky ice-cream that accompanied a cake-like sticky toffee pudding.
However, service and the extensive drinks list (which includes a good choice of classic and signature cocktails, are hard to fault. Clearly, the Botanist formula has worked for gastropub supremos Tom and Ed Martin, as they've re-employed it at their latest opening, the Chiswell Street Dining Rooms.

Tables outdoors ( 4, pavement ), Babies and children welcome ( high chairs ), Booking advisable, Disabled ( toilet ), Dress ( smart casual )I absolutely love visiting The Botanist. The friendly attentive service and buzzing atmosphere make the place so inviting. And the food is delicious, the fish cakes are a personal favourite!
Quite disappointed by my last meal here, since I was going to the Cadogan Hall with my partner and we wanted a nice dinner before we thought we should give it a try. We could have had better service at a kebabs place. Firstly, even they were almost empty they played hard to get in, once seated water was brought to the table promptly, unfortunately we can't say the same for any server, we had to wait well over 20 minutes and it wasn't until my partner called one of the many wandering servers who seemed lost on the floor that we were able to order. Two tables next to us were served way before even though we were there half an hour before them. Food was nothing amazing and we had zero contact from any server to ask for more drinks or even if our food was OK. Given the fact that they weren't even busy and yet we had such a lousy service, I'd never recommend it.
The Botanist has a busy but very friendly atmosphere, each time I have been the food has been amazing! The cocktails are also fab and the bar staff are great at recommending different ones to try, and sometimes even creating a new one entirely for you.
I would recommend this restaurant/bar to everyone in fact I do almost on a daily basis!
I love coming here - there is always such a buzz whether you come for breakfast, lunch or dinner. I find the staff to be attentive and the food is always excellent. Amazingly for the area, there are hardly any decent places to eat or drink around here (The Cadogan Arms being the only exception) so it's great to have discovered the Botanist.
The Botanist has a great atmosphere and is very welcoming. I have been to the restuarant twice, once for my boyfriends birthday and once for my Dad's 60th Birthday. Each time the food, service and drinks have been great. Would definitely recommend.
I’ve spent many evenings eating and drinking at The Botanist and this is one of the most consistent restaurants in London. Food is superb and the cocktails are to die for… Perfect place to people watch and catching up with friends! Can get very busy in the evenings so if you want a quiet corner ensure you ask for it when booking (they are super helpful!).
I was really disappointed with this place. I went for breakfast on my birthday with 2 of my friends. Granted we arrived at 10:30am, but thats still no excuse for the poor quality of food and service we received. Despite a pleasant welcome, we found the staff to be quite abrupt and not particularly knowledgeable of their own brasserie's menu. When 3 cups of tea were ordered, no milk or sugar was provided nor were we even asked if we'd like any. The scrambled eggs were lukewarm and cheese had been added despite no warning on the menu or from the waiting staff. The tea leaves used for their English breakfast blend were weak and needed approximately ten minutes to brew to an acceptable strength. Foodwise, the only impressive element was the smoked salmon, which was fresh and of good quality. When requesting the pastry selection from the menu, we were told there were only two choices - a croissant and a pain au chocolat. They were served cold from a shelf near our table. Although the decor was lovely and it is inexpensive for the area, I won't be returning for breakfast again. My friend who had the blueberry pancakes, however was impressed.
