Sometimes, a Thai, Korean or Turkish meal just won't do - you want comfort food, the sort of thing you might make at home for a dinner party, if only you had the time. Hannah's Place in Earlsfield caters for that desire, with dishes such as a correctly-textured risotto flavoured with peas, parmesan and roasted pine nuts, or spaghetti with a tomato and pesto sauce. Most of these main courses cost under a tenner, though something a little fancier - such as chicken with a broth of chorizo and vegetables, or mussels cooked in white wine with chips - cost a pound or two more. Puddings are equally simple, such as banoffee pie or lemon and vanilla cheesecake, all costing £4.50 - and prepared with the kind of care that would make Delia (in her heyday) proud.

Although this is a perfectly serviceable bistro, it only merits a two-star rating for a few reasons. The first is that cooking of such modest ambition really isn't too hard to make at home, so why would you choose to eat this food at a restaurant? If the place had some romantic allure, perhaps. But too many small tables are are jammed into the dining area, enforcing intimacy with your neighbours as much as with your tryst. Dust off your Delias and treat your loved one(s) to some real home cooking instead.

Went there the other night and for the third time in a row the food was really disappointing. Ordered seabass which tasted really fishy. The roast potatoes were slimy and the spinach oily. I could have done a much better job myself. Really not acceptable for the price. When I complained, the once overly attentive waitor mumbled something about letting the manager know in quite a defensive way and I got a free pudding. Fine but I won't bother eating here again.

I have to agree with the previous post entirely. This used to be a lovely restaurant and I've been about 4 or 5 times in the past couple of years. We went yesterday evening and I felt I had to share some feedback as it simply wasn't up to scratch and the management is, quite simply put... BAD!

I ordered fishcakes, which when they arrived I was told there was no sweet chilli and they had replaced this with plum sauce. Erm ok. I asked for some tartar instead - what arrived did not look like tartar! More liked tangy mushroom. Steered clear of the sauces. My main issue would be that I ordered a small glass of red Malbec (normally safe on any winelist). I watched it get poured and noticed that the dreggs of a previous bottle were emtied into the glass first (why not just toss this and start fresh??) - literally two tablespoons, a new bottle was opened and filled the glass. It didnt taste very nice at all! We said we would like to order something else and the manager promptly said: "well its a new bottle so there's nothing wrong with it!". I quietly informed her that I watched her pour it and that she had indeed used the last of a previous bottle to start with. She had no repsonse for this and she would not take it off the bill!

We will not be going back and I will ensure that none of our friends waste their time either.

Used to be decent but attitude of the manager leaves little to be desired. Paid just over £20 for a fillet steak which came with rather a lot of gristle. Suggested to the manager that the cut may be a rump rather than fillet and was told that if I 'wanted to take it up with the chef' then I could... rather aggressive reaction we felt for some feedback on the meal. We were very keen to point out that whatever it was, it was delicious, it just wasn't fillet. Needless to say we were charged for fillet.. and further to that, based on the way we were spoken to at Hannah's Place, I would like to confirm that the remainder of the 'gristle' from the fillet was taken into our local butcher and confirmed not to be fillet! Eat there if you fancy being talked down to by the Manager and paying over the odds for something its not!

The ambience is lovely and the staff were really friendly and helpful. However the food was pretty disappointing and did not live up to the enticing description on the menu. Tortellini pasta (tasted like the ones you could get at the local supermarket) with cream, and cod with stir fry vegetables, not much flavour and not very exciting. The cheese and biscuits were thrown on the plate with very average cream crackers. Should have stayed at home and eaten, would have been the same!

I disagree with the previous reviewer. i ate at hannah's a number of times and rated it as one of the better places to eat in earlsfield. the food is simple, hearty and delicious. i must not be alone in thinking this because the place appears to be full every night, including weeknights.

I've given Hannah's Place three chances, and all three have been disappointing.

First time we dined there my pasta had so much olive oil I actually drained it off and almost filled up the small bowl we were served olives in... I showed the manager but he didn't seem phased in any way. The next two visits we're just as bad if not worse.

With all the great places to eat out at in Earlsfield, I'm surprised they're still in business.
