Nestled between a hip new hairdresser's and a cool clothing/design store, Wilton's has made locals very happy indeed. The pared-back design of corrugated iron and stripped-wood floors, stools and tables means the interior is not exactly cosy, but the steady stream of regulars don't seem to mind a jot.
They come to pick up pastries and scrumptious-sounding delights involving cheese, meats and bread from the likes of Neal's Yard, Ginger Pig, Brindisa and Seven Seeded. Coffee (beans provided by Broadway Market's Climpson & Sons) is reliably excellent too.
A bacon bap with avocado was delicious: well-cooked bacon piled on freshly sliced avocado laced with just the right amount of lemony tang (though the bap could have been fresher). Sourdough with goat's cheese and honey was equally moreish, but not toasted as advertised.
Further inducements include free internet access, art on the walls (beautiful delicate tangerine wrappers on our visit), and, if you time it right, London Fields Radio, which broadcasts from here.
