The area around Victoria station is but a gastronomic desert, riddled with souless chains and not much else. But a short stroll down Wilton Way and you find this sight for sore eyes - a welcoming café perhaps more suited to the gentrified areas of Shoreditch than this grim thoroughfare.
Big wooden tables for communal eating and a lengthy chalkboard boasting, well, fresh and filling food makes this place feel immediately familiar.
Hot soups are creative and veer off the predictable path, with Toulouse sausage and lentil; peppered broccoli and brie; chickpea, spinach and dahl.
Hot mains are served in deep, rounded bowls in healthy proportions: aromatic chicken jalfrezi stew or a vegan Thai vegetable curry, both served with rice and costing a mere £4.95.
Our baked eggs with chorizo, spinach, feta and tomato came slightly overcooked, but delivered on flavour and came with two lavishly buttered slices of good brown bread.
It's only open until 8pm weekdays (and 6pm on weekends), but this is a commendable pitstop when you're in the area, and is possibly your best pre-theatre option around these parts.

Vegan dishesI came here in the hope of finding a decent coffee in an area beset by drab chain options. Coming from Melbourne (a place rich in independent coffee shops) I was hoping this could potentially be my new regular pit stop. Unfortunately, it is back to Neros I will go as the coffee was extremely disappointing insipid and (despite the extra shot I ordered) weak.
We found it easy to get a table on a sunny Sunday afternoon (Mother's Day too). Great food - interesting, delicious, quick, fresh and very good value. We'll be back without a doubt.
GREAT food! We went there for a quick bite and ended up spending half of the afternoon... the homemade pumpkin tortellini were absolutely to die for, nothing short then real italian ones (and I am italian!). Beef lasagne were also good, as well as the soup (a delicious malaysian chicken noodle!). Deserts were just the icing on the cake.
I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a nice, cheap eat nearby!
We came here last night because of these reviews and were disappointed. The atmosphere is quite nice, but the food was mediocre. We had veg Thai curry. The veg was very ordinary - mostly carrots, red peppers and some mini sweet corn, in a curry sauce from a jar, on a pile of quick cook rice. Sorry - not impressed. We couldn't finish our plates.
I love Pimlico Fresh but they have recently stopped doing Monmouth Coffee. I think it is such a shame. The coffee they have now is good but not as good as it was. Bring back Monmouth!
Been going here since it opened and still love it.
Staff are great, food is quaity.
What more could you want?
Theres lots of places in Pimlico though i must say Kazan cafe,Pat Val, le Pain,Giraffe etc have opened since this review was written so thats not really valid... They dont even sell cupcakes!!! Vegan muffin cakes maybe but not cupcakes...As far as Monmouth coffee goes theres a shop only a few doors away that also sells Monmouth and yet pimlico Fresh is still in business...
As far as the seating goes it is very limited but if you wait a few minutes theres always space and its always packed in there...good on them..
The staff are always friendly and full of smiles and make time to chat with the customers...
As far as other places in Pimlico theres so many i agree but they are not all cafes.... Pomegranates has been closed for a long time and About Thyme, Grumbles and Mekong are resturants not cafes.. Pimlico Fresh is a cafe..it just happens to be open late and offers a quick dinner after work or before the theatre...thats a bonus...you can get lots of vegan, gluten and wheat free food as well..
i have lived in Pimlico for over 10 years and until they came along you couldnt buy fresh juices and smoothies, porridge, organic bread, fresh salads etc and all to take out if you want..
Its been around for nearly 2 years now and everyone i know loves the place and i guess if your a local you would know more...its a real hub for the community...
i would like to see it stay there and i cant see it being a passing trend with the following they have... Even the staff have been there from Day 1 which says a lot to me...
The food is good, but to be honest, if you want a take away sandwich or take away salad there are other places around there (see other reviews below) because you just simply can't eat in. It would be great if you could PLAN to go to Pimlico Fresh, but you just cant. Instead of saying, lets meet at Pimlico Fresh, you have to say, lets go to lunch in Pimlico, we'll walk by Pimlico fresh and if there's space, we'll stop, if not, we'll got to... (Kazan cafe, le Pain, Pat Val, Giraffe etc). Seriously, if Kazan cafe started serving Monmouth coffee, Pimlico Fresh would be out of business. For Pimlico Fresh's sake, I hope they have an exclusivity agreement. THERE IS NEVER anywhere to sit, and once the cupcake craze is over, and with a food hygene score like that, this place is a passing trend.
PF is a victim of its popularity - it certainly needs more seating space - but every time I've been here I've eaten very, very well. And the coffee's good too.
Seriously ignorant review - if you're going to make such strong statements about the are check out your facts first. There are plenty of high-quality, interesting, independent places to eat nearby including: About Thyme, Grumbles, Mekong, Gastronomica, Khallouk & Taylor, Kazan, Pomegranates, Pimlico Village (more recent I know), Lush Deli, The Contented Vine, Delizie D'Italia, Daylesford Organic, Baker & Spice, Thai Cafe and Tom Tom Coffee House. Explore a bit more and get to know the city you're writing about.
That's if you can get a seat, too crowded and not as cheap as this review makes out
