Dri Dri occupies a beach hut-style venue at Chelsea Farmers Market, though you won’t spot many wellie wearers among the well-heeled patrons. Gelato is kept carefully covered in metal cylinders sunk deep into the counter, which help retain the texture of the ices but make it considerably more difficult to choose a flavour. Luckily, helpful and enthusiastic staff were on hand to ply us with tasters before we took the plunge.
Blind to its unappetising beige hue, yet wowed by its taste, we plumped for an almond biscotto scoop. This was light, but with a slightly coarse consistency and a warmly spiced flavour; it perfectly complemented the strong and rather bitter second scoop of espresso. The room is candy-floss cute, all pastel shades and too-small tables; better to take your tub a little farther down Sydney Street and relax on the grass in the neighbouring park.
