An intimate shopfront room with just 12 tables and a tiny bar, Charuwan offers a friendly welcome that increases to genuine warmth for regulars. Decor is soothingly traditional, with a Thai pavilion roof embedded in the ceiling, framed landscape photos and a painting of the Buddha. Squarish white plates and etched-glass tea lights are among the token nods to modernity.
The tone continues in the menu: starters are as expected (satay, spring rolls, fish cakes), but there are treats to explore among the larger dishes. From the list of house specials, squid tubes stuffed with a spicy paste of prawns and chicken then deep-fried and served with chilli sauce, looked as cheerful as sunflowers.
We loved the fresh fragrance of kung obb mor din (king prawns with glass noodles, spring onion and herbs), and the kick of hot and sour black mushroom salad. A simple stir-fry of beef, garlic, spinach and pepper scored for its tender meat and rich yet clean-tasting sauce. Speaking of cleanliness: few places score the maximum five stars for hygiene from the Food Standards Agency; this is one of them.

Food is ok but they cannot get it together to deliver. Tried this service 3 times and each time a disaster- wrong order, 2 hr wait, wrong order. Hope this helps.
Absolutely divine food - we've eaten there and had take-aways many, many times and never had a dish that is less than delicious. The house wine is lovely. The staff are always lovely, attentive and provide impeccable service. Great prices too. I couldn't recommend this restaurant more highly.
Superb Thai restaurant. Excellent food and very reasonable prices. It's much better than the other Thai restaurants in more fashionable Muswell hill or crouch end. Highly recommended.
I went to the restuarnt on last weekend with my partner. House Wine was good, place was clean and nice. Food taste excellent! . I will back again for sure.
As resident this area we orde delivery food twice a week. We order few main dish and we got free prawn cracker and one bottle of Thai Beer. I could recommend all to spend your dinner at home with Thai food from this place. Good food and price reasonable.
Delicious food, good service. I recommend all my friend to try.

My friends and I just had dinner at Thai Charuwan restaurant.Food was delicious and service was nice.

As resident this area we went to this restaurant twice a week it look like i stay in thailand food and service was excellent,we can bring my own wine too.
As a Tufnell Park resident I have eaten at Charuwan three times now - twice in the restaurant and once a take away. The first time was good but the two others were terrible. The squid special was so over cooked it was actually inedible. I think perhpas the only explanation is that standards have slipped over time - which may account for the fact that it is now often nearly empyt, even at weekends.
Been there twice, good food and service, looking forward to hosting a mini party there!
I went to this restaurant on 30/05/2010 and found the place to be rather confusing. The food itself was good. The service, terrible.
To start we shared the mixed platter. This consisted of dim sum (pork), chicken satay, spring rolls and sesame toast. For the most part this was a fairly average experience served with peanut sauce and (possibly watered down) sweet chilli dip. The Dim Sum however was excellent.
For mains I had Jungle Curry whilst my partner had a vegetarian option. We shared a coconut rice and plain noodles. The mains were excellent authentic dishes and further confounded the fact that the starter was so obviously average.
We had a very nice bottle of house white too and the bill totaled £53
Unfortunately, this whole experience, on a quiet Sunday night (us, 1 x table of 2 and 1 x table of 4, both of which had been in and ordered before we arrived) took over 2 hours. We waited 20 minutes just to get menus/drinks order and the waitress was quite odd. It really let the place down and has put us off eating there again. A take away may be on the cards, but dining in.... not if it takes 2 hours on a quiet night.
