Victoria Inn

In the posher part of Peckham, the former Wishing Well has had a fair few coins tossed at it, but it’s a homely rather than haughty affair. Hunkered around an oak horseshoe bar are high brown suede banquettes, robust wooden tables and worn-out leather armchairs.

The open-plan kitchen turns out traditional pub tucker with a twist: chorizo scotch egg and breaded halloumi sticks for snack or starter, spicy chargrilled chilli squid for a main.

Not many boozers have beer lists as broad as this, with draught Meantime, Adnams, Erdinger and Bonobo (brewed at its sister pub, the Florence), as well as a bevy of bottled beers including Duvel and Brooklyn Lager. Don’t be disheartened by the wines on draught (really) from the US and Argentina – for entry-level liquids, they’re a decent drop.

Recently refurbished with a new menu = soft launch with 50% off food :) Quite a wide choice with the menu. The scallops were delish, I should have ordered more. Crab and tuna poke for mains were tasty too, followed by chocolate fondant and sticky toffee pudding for dessert... I was stuffed full of good and yummy food. Staff were friendly and helpful too and venue was completely wheelchair accessible. Only downside was I found the music too loud so it was hard to have a conversation, but can understand they were trying to create a lively atmosphere with it.
