Georgiana Amador worked at Mac for many years, which might explain why, when opening her own beauty parlour in Clerkenwell, she took a full-colour approach: an antidote to MAC’s trademark all-black packaging and decor. Hula’s boudoir style beauty rooms are gloriously decked out in Hawaian wallcoverings, with plush velvet sofas and burlesque flourishes (airbrush tans are dried off with a feathery fan, while beauticians have a distinctly Dita Von Teese air about them). The salon specialises in luxurious grooming rather than skincare – so customers can come here for chocolate lycon waxes that leave a trace of glitter on the skin, and super-longlasting bio gel manicures, rather than facials and massages. Nail treatments take place in the window of the parlour, so you can gossip as you watch the media types go by, while waxes and spray tans are in cosily decked-out backrooms. Despite only just opening, there is a good buzz about the place, probably due to a solid fanbase garnered from Hula Nails’s initial months as excellent mobile beauticians. Now it’s their clients’ turns to do the travelling – and it looks like they’re very happy to do so.

The only redeeming feature of this place is the waxing girl, who is professional and knows exactly how to administer a pain-free bikini wax.. Great decor but rude and un-attentive owner/manager. Average manicures (but good waxing): all fur coat and no knickers.

I would not recommend this place. I was a regular customer (largely as it is very close to my office and convenient), however I turned up 6 minutes late for my last appointment and they refused to see me.. They take a deposit on booking appointments and would not return it. I was astounded by how patronising and inflexible they were. The place is also very expensive for what it is. Since my bad experience, I have also spoken to a couple of friends who have been to hula nails - all of them say that they no longer go to hula as the staff attitude is so awful, and they have had similarly bad experiences. Will not be going back..

This place is an absolute joke. There's nostalgia and then there's stuck in the stone ages.

I came in in December to buy a gift voucher for my friend for her birthday. As we are busy girls, we didn't get round to booking an appointment until February, but boy was that a chore. The phone line is constantly engaged and the answer phone advises you to not leave a message, great! As if I have all day to be phoning in to make an appointment.

After we both tried ringing several times, we finally got through and booked an appointment, fine. A few days later we realised we couldn't make our original appointment so I called to change the date. The original appointment was 6 April, and I asked for 14 May. I turned up on the 14 May to find that there was no appointment for us and they were booked all day so could not accommodate us!

After already spending £58 in this establishment without getting any treatments and being told I could not be seen I was not impressed (£40 for the voucher and £18 for a deposit for my treatment). I was then MADE to troll through my bank statements on my phone in the branch in order to prove to THEM that I had paid them money to get a refund, even though the back of the voucher legally claimed that the voucher itself was proof of purchase in itself. It was a nightmare and the girls in there were most unhelpful (and lacked a few brain cells as well). What a way to waste an hour in a salon that doesn't know the meaning of customer service.

I managed to see the comments they had made on my account on their system which said "14/04/2016 Client No show", which they failed to own up to or acknowledge (so I had to snoop and they wouldn't be honest). So they made a mistake, and booked me on the wrong date because they clearly weren't listening. Finally got my money back but not without a tremendous amount of grief, blame and anger. No pretty nails though.

A bit of technology and some customer service training would help this place go a long way. If you've got a POS system to make bookings, what's so difficult about sending text/email/phone appointment reminder or confirmation? This would help everyone who runs VERY busy lives and unfortunately is not a lady of leisure from the 60s to have a nice day out getting pampered without any grief. No apology from them, of course. Attitude and acting like you have more power than the customer does will get you no where girls. They even said they didn't care if I didn't get my money back! Outrageous. Doesn't even deserve 1 star.

I didn't know the Hula Salon was at the end of my work street, I've wanted to go for a long time as I've heard a lot of good things. I don't normally write reviews but had the best lunch break  experience and have never had such a friendly experience in a nail bar. My nail girl was friendly, chatty and quick which I like. I booked for nails only but They managed to squeeze a wax last minute for me in too, something I've never been able to do with only a 1 hour strict break. The staff look adorable in hair flowers and bright red lips, like something from a vintage film. The salon doesn't smell of chemicals which I hate normally. I was given a fruit drink on arrival. One thing I would say, is book ahead, they get busy! A good sign.

This is hands down the best salon I've been to.

If you want perfect half moon hails and glittery toes that last for week hula nails is for you!

The most stunning fluttery lashes that last for weeks and make me feel done and pretty which is sometimes hard for a working mum.

The wax is painless and professional.

All the staff are so professional and look after you from the second you walk in

I recommend bee, Sophia, Charlotte and Sophia

And of course the queen herself George.

I go there to feel pampered and special I had a hen night there and pre wedding primp and have been addicted ever since.

I go on my there on my own or with a bunch of girls or with my mum. We always have a splendid time ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️💅🏻💅🏻💅🏻💅🏻💅🏻💅🏻

I do not like beauty salons. I think it’s a pain in the ass (quite literally) to have your waxing done. But at Hula Nails it feels ok and not a major waste of time.

Vintage parlour, tiki inspired, totally retro – the décor is very well thought through. Every detail counts and gives a great vibe to the salon. Even the staff is all dolled up.

Prices are kinda high (expect £35-50 per treatment) but very high quality. The Hollywood wax is the most thorough and less painful I have ever had. As a real treat, I highly recommend this salon.

PS: do try the tea while you wait. Flavours change with the seasons and are always very yummy.

My favourite beauticians. Lovely girly atmosphere and brilliant waxing. Also good for lashes for a treat. Expensive but good.

I've been coming here for 2 years and I love it. As soon as you walk in you're whisked into a dreamland of glamour. The staff are so lovely and I always feel pampered and so proud of my nails after a visit!

I cannot recommend this salon highly enough. I have been a regular client at Hula Nails for over a year now and its always such a treat. George and the girls are so lovely and always make you feel welcome and totally pampered. Get down there ASAP if you haven't already been.

Love this place for waxing (haven't had any other treatments). Great service, and absolutely love the decor. The girls treat you like they've known you for years, which may not suit everyone as can come across as a bit brusque, but I absolutely love it

Ananda

Very nice decor, and all girly dolly attitude, but big BUT !Staff will leave you alone forever, while you waiting for your appointment that already very very late....welll....most of the manicure girls not pro at all...its like painting your nails at home..1mm from cuticle! ...lashes.....still home service...like your friend did it too you..half of my extensions was poking my eyes all b day...i couldn't sleep because its just simply haven't been done properly ...pls don't be attracted by the layout...because thats only what they have...

I always rely on Time Out for advice and they didn't disappoint with this salon. I just moved to London and was nervous of finding a new waxing salon as I have had bad experiences before. The hot wax was brilliant. As well as all the treatments (I was there for nearly 3 hours), the staff gave me advice on restaurants and other things to do in London. Very helpful.

Hula, amazing atmospere, I went there for hair exstention and I am very happy with the result but I have to say that I went there on Friday afternoon and I've been offered a nice cocktail and the air was full of positive feelings and relax, customers and staff chatting friendly and a lot of relaxing chats, this is the place you feel always welcome. Thanks Hula

Georgiana has been keeping my hands beautiful and my body smooth as silk for years and finally we can share their glamorous treats with the ladies of London with the opening of Hula Nails.
