Paul Bernstock and Thelma Speirs first met at Middlesex Polytechnic in 1979 and have been attiring east London’s best-dressed heads since 1982. Everyone from Julie Christie and Boy George to Cheryl Cole and Victoria Beckham has bought one of their bonnets – creative reworkings of classic styles.
Recent collections have featured veiled visors, bobble hats with bows, cotton jersey caps, ‘panama trilbys’ with a striped jersey brim and beanies in corduroy and tartan. The brand has also collaborated with designers Peter Jensen, Emma Cook, Agnès b, Jean Paul Gaultier and Richard Nicoll, and has a concession in Dover Street Market.
Bernstock Speirs is number 70 in our list of the 100 best shops in London.
