Birgit Israel’s smart, timeless 20th-century furniture store attracts collectors, interior designers and stylists looking for period pieces in mint condition. Lights are a particular passion, with the likes of Murano glass-tiered chandelier and Venini glass disk wall lights often gracing the shop with their presence. Furniture is understated – what Israel calls ‘casual luxury’ – encompassing, for example, a set of four ‘Eden Roc hotel’ chairs (£1,750), say, or a pair of acrylic cube tables, fresh from the 1960s (£645). The store also makes cushions and furniture to order. An interior design consultancy is available and you can arrange a wedding list here. Israel’s clothing boutique is just along the road.
