We have heard the odd less-than-favourable review of Cucumba, with testers griping about being ushered in and out a bit too quickly – but that’s rather the point of this express Soho salon, which specialises in pit-stop beauty treatments. Happily, our testers don’t have a bad word to say about their experiences here, where you can pick treatments charged by the minute. Choose between ‘Topups’, ‘Quickfixes’ and ‘Pitstops’– and pay about £17 for a duo like an eyebrow shape and nail job, which will take about 17 minutes. New to the menu is the beguiling-sounding ‘vajazzle fanny art’, a steal at £3.50. Sadly, testers for this one were unavailable at the time of writing.

If you want a decent pedicure - this is not your place. I booked for a gel pedicure. There was no buffing, filing etc. Just a once over with a overused nail file and straight to paint. I had to return back to get my toe retouched as the gel had tiny bubbles from the paint not setting before the top coat was applied. Appallingly expensive and they exacerbate the situation by having an automatic tipping option on the card machine that only the cashier can override. When you pay £48 for a less than mediocre pedi by a disinterested, careless beautician - a tip is not happening and it's distasteful that it is so blatantly suggested.

My 7 month pregnant friend had the Lymph drainage massage to help her swollen feet and this was a complete waste of time. The masseur didn't know what she was doing and my friend had to tell her to be more gentle as she wasn't picking up on the fact she was hurting her. The less than atmospheric "techno" music playing added to a hugely underwhelming foot rub.

Avoid Cucumba, it crap.
