  • Would totally recommend this show to anyone who is a fan of south park. Fab songs and laugh out loud comedy through out the whole show. Well worth the money.

  • Re: the question of racism - to expand on my point a bit, it felt to me that the portrayal of Uganda was so explicitly a parody of dim bulb western depictions of Africa/'the other' (there'a clear nod to 'The King & I', of course) that it didn't feel it was ever trying to make any comment on Africa, Africans or black people. Yes, there is a lot of gross out humour with regards to the Ugandans' poverty and sexual practices etc, but again, this just seemed to me to be subverting romanticised depictions of the continent and make the Mormons' mission seem even sillier. I don't feel the show ever tries to make any comment on Uganda and clearly it's totally removed from any sense of social realism. It's a bit like Canada in South Park, the joke is all about American perceptions of Canada. But I mean, clearly if Parker and Stone are dabbling in the currency of well meaning American racism in order to mock well meaning American racism then that is playing with fire to some extent and I can see how you might feel they got a little too close to the flame.

  • A sad case of the Emperor's new clothes - it would appear to be heresy to point out that it's neither as clever or as funny as reviews and ticket sales are suggesting. Suggestions that it "side steps racism" are frankly ridiculous, but all might be forgiven if the shocks led to some proper laughs, to some properly thought out digs at not only Mormon but all religions. As it is, the biggest shock is how poor it is. If it had at least half the wit and bite of Jerry Springer The Opera, it would still be twice the show it is.

  • I'm just a fan who has seen the show 11 times on Broadway, and I'll be in London in May to see it again. Anything worth doing is worth overdoing, and that goes for seeing this wonderful show!

  • Brilliantly nuanced, fantastic songs, manic choreography and excellent staging. The London cast are even better than the Broadway cast, in terms of comedic timing and just sheer heart. An excellent musical - I just wish we could get more tickets! Deservedly sold out!

  • I think you mean 19th Century America! "Let me take you back to Biblical times, 1823!" Trust me, the lyrics from this show told me everything I need to know about Mormons, and their church didn't start in the 18thC, maybe you were confused about costumes or something. It's an amazing show, though!

  • Has to be the funniest musical out! Believe the hype, it is a must see. Not one to take your mother to maybe, but if you love musicals, you will appreciate how fantastic this musical is (and also enjoy the similarities of many of the songs to other musicals). It may be rude, but is also heartwarming, and will leave you just feeling good! If you enjoyed Spamalot or Avenue Q then don't miss it!

  • It is the two worst things a musical comedy could possibly by, unfuny & boring - http://www.frontrowdress.com/2013/03/the-book-of-mormon-prince-of-wales.html
