A few years ago, this capacious corner pub was straight from the old school: footy on the telly, folk club in the function room, banter at the bar, lager in the fridge. It was a fair old place back then, but it’s better now, spruced up by an ambitious team who aim to return this imposing boozer to its former status as a local community hub.
The main bar is a big, bright, open-plan space, with a baby-grand piano and an above-average range of ales compensating for the lack of cosiness: you can expect to find up to five on tap at any one time, including a fair number of unusual varieties. Upstairs, the old function room is now being billed as a theatre, home not to folk nights but comedy clubs and occasional small-scale stage shows.

Great for bands and comedy. They hire out rooms for local organisations. A proper community pub. A place where you know the owners- that is rare.
I've been there one Friday night in August of 2013, I still haven't forgotten that magical experience.
Realy friendly pub that has good bands on many nights of the week, all tastes of music are catered for.
Best pub, best theatre, best pizza, best beer, loveliest landlord & landlady! This place led the pub revival in Walthamstow and continues to raise the game.
Wonderful, amazing local -- but the Time Out review is quite wrong! The Rose & Crown is still the home of Walthamstow Folk Club, putting on top-tier gigs every Sunday night, and it also hosts open mic nights and tune sessions.
Great comedy, awesome beers, top notch local atmosphere and - when the pizza oven's there - one of the best 'zas in London.
