This annual celebration in Trafalgar Square marks the Festival of Lights with heaps of food, music, activities and fun. The live line-up will include both traditional religious performances and contemporary Asian music and dance, and the children's parade will this year re-enact the end of the Diwali story – Lord Rama's victorious return to his kingdom. Market stalls will offer arts, crafts and vegetarian Southeast Asian food and there'll be workshops and activities for all ages.

As this is the festival of light, my partner and I turned up after dark only to be told that we couldn't get any of the delicious food on offer as they were closing (the stall owners didn't seem to mind but the festival guards were pretty pushy about no one getting served.) This was 6.30pm. It'd only been dark half an hour. We went on Time Outs recommendation but you didn't put an end time. We were really gutted as we'd been looking forward to it but specifically waited until after dark. So we watched the end of the concert and went home after a few minutes.
