Nothing says 'neighbourhood' like allotments. With that in mind, the Southbank Centre, together with community organisation Wayward Plants, has installed a series of volunteer-run allotments along the riverside Queen's Walk alongside the Royal Festival Hall. The crop of nine allotment have been handmade from reclaimed wood and windows, while a further 200 window boxes are also being contructed and planted by green-fingered volunteers. To get involved, see www.waywardplants.org. For more information about the Festival of Neighbourhood see www.southbankcentre.co.uk.

The gardens are such a nice touch. They really add some much needed greenery to the South Bank area. Although, some of the plants were wilting. So maybe a bit of neighbourly tlc is needed to liven them up.
