Grand Designs Live

Design guru Kevin McCloud and sustainable-living lover Charlie Luxton will be alternating days at this year's aspirational consumer show. More than 500 exhibitors offer products and services intended to help you build, design, decorate or eco-renovate, and a number of full-scale properties are set up to help visitors visualise home improvement ideas. There will even be virtual reality headsets on show this year that allow you to *almost* touch that redesign. Children aged 15 and under go free but do need to register.

I think compared to previous years - this year was quite disappointing. Usually the sets and theatre demonstrations are spectacular, but I don't think they quite hit the spot this year. Or perhaps they just weren't relevant to us at our current stage of home design. The pricing structure varied between both days of the bank holiday, so sometimes it's confusing whether you're genuinely getting a good deal. We really enjoyed one of the food demonstrations by chefs from Chotto Matte of a chicken dish and are excited to try this out at home.

A great side-perk was the reduced rate on the Emirates Cable Cars of £2 per adult for a single journey upon showing a valid Grand Designs ticket. As the weather was really great over the Bank Holiday weekend, we were able to enjoy this on our way home!
