While this annual event holds on to all the traditional fete attractions (coconut shy, plant sale, tug of war, cake contest), there are extra elements to reflect twenty-first century Hackney life. The music line-up's been curated by neighbouring club/venue Oslo, the bar will be serving craft beer and cocktails and local dogs are invited to take part in a fashion parade. The special guests are delightfully varied, too; Jermain Jackman, winner of 'The Voice', will open the fete and speak about growing up in Hackney, and there'll be an appearance from Hackney and Islington's Pearly Kings and Queens. Kids can visit the Playbus, learn bell ringing and paint sculptures. The event is free.
