This event is very mis-sold. The National Trust website reads as if there are events every day. But all this is, is a craft market that you have to pay £5.50 per person to get into, with a mediocre Santa's grotto that costs another £2. The Santa was very unenthusiastic and his costume needed a wash (his white gloves were filthy!). There were other characters in the house such as Captain Hook, but they just stood around looking bored - didn't interact with children.
On the plus side, the quality of market goods were great. Lots of nice prints, fabrics and cards - a cut above many markets. But nothing really for families, other than 5 mins with Santa.
