Series one, episode eight
They’re dropping like Edward’s flies now. With Jacquetta, Isabel and George bumped off, the king himself is now at death’s door. The scramble for the throne begins in earnest, but it’s paranoia that reigns: Elizabeth’s sons are in pole position but could be undermined by whispers of illegitimacy; Richard still cuts an oddly noble figure, even as those with ulterior motives drip poison in his ear; and Margaret is advised by Lord Stanley to bide her time and let her rivals destroy each other.
It all makes for another hell-for-leather hour, packing in sex, murder, conspiracy, the further descent of Elizabeth from the moral high ground and yet another theory to add to the pile about the fate of the Princes in the Tower. Great fun.
