Proud Cabaret review 4 Users say 3/5 Rate it

Tucked away in a corner of the City, this cabaret outpost from the Proud stable is one of the lushest dinner-cabaret spaces in town, with a well-positioned thrust stage nestling below plush, cosily nested booths and a striking bar. The modern British menu is good too, particularly at the special-offer rates the venue sometimes offers, though service can be variable. The shows aim for spectacle rather than substance: often high on technical skills, they tend to be low on character or provocation. A popular choice for hen parties.

Went for my best-friends stag do. As we were all in our early fourties, the venue was perfect for us. The food was delicious, the acts were entertaining, beautiful and very classy. It was the perfect balance of naughty but sophisticated. Will definitely be returning.

Hey guys,

I appreciate the messages but 'The Carnival' is now on at Leicester Square as Veronique is right, it didn't fit with the venue.

Proud is a great place but simply not right for The Carnival, hence why we have moved the show. Please see http://www.leicestersquaretheatre.com/lqt/show/S1298396181/The+Carnival:+A+Circus+Opera for show times etc.

I can understand that some people may have been disappointed as they bought tickets to The Carnival but we are now at a venue that is far more conducive to the performance.

Also, people who have specific issues with Proud really hasn't any thing to do with us or our show so could you please get in touch with the venue as opposed to posting on a public site.

Many thanks and best wishes to all!

In response to Rosie Duff's comment regarding Chloe Charody's show 'The carnival': It is quite strongly apparent that you are somehow involved with this show Rosie? The carnival was a fantastic production - but simply not right for the venue hence our decision to cancel the shows. We listen to our customer feedback religiously and unfortunately your show did not fit with our general audience.
We do however wish you all the best luck and success at your new venue.

This last comment comes as a surprise, all of our performers are paid on the evening that they perform. I suggest you tell your cousin to get in touch with the management at Proud Cabaret as we here haven't had any performers approach us about non-payment.

Was appalled last night to arrive at Proud Cabaret, expecting to see Chloe Charody's Carnival with the Ilithian ensemble, only to find it had been replaced by a trashy Voix de Ville show... No offence intended, but I paid for a Classical Operatic Circus, supposedly the hottest thing to hit London in yonkers, and had to sit through a very mediocre show which replaced it. My waitress said that it was only temporary, and that Carnival would resume next week, but I was furious that I had spent good money to see a world-class show, only to be met with the same old Proud Cabaret junk.... Please please please don't put us through it anymore!! Bring back Ilythian and the Carnival asap. I want to see it!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yep looks like The Carnival is going to be quite a stunner but opening night is almost sold I hear? Rumour or true?

Why is the Carnival not listed here?? It's probably the best thing to hit the London classical scene in decades and it's happening @ a burlesque club!! This is such a treat for all Londoners!! Opening night is Feb 3 and I think it's running throughout the year. I can't make the opening night so I'm hoping Time Out will post some pix post opening??

I would definitely recommend going to see The Carnival @ proud. Some of londons best circus players and classical players are all working together and i reckon its going to be incredible. I already saw one of Charodys productions in australia last year and it was one of the best shows i've ever seen so definitely putting this one in the diary

I have mixed feelings about Proud- first visit was great... second the performers were very average. However I think in 2011 they're really lifting their game!

My friend is performing in a show called The Carnival by an aussie composer & producer called Chloe Charody that will be opening on Feb 3 @ Proud and it's apparently meant to be absolutely awesome. The show has had really great reviews so I'm not giving up on this place!!

Unfortunately my first visit to Proud Cabaret was a complete disappointment. Me and my partner decided to by a show only so we did not have a table. We were moved by the club staff 4 times as diners were not happy we were restricting their views. Come on - they paid the same price for the show and this is the club's problem they dont have enough room to fit all the guests at the venue. I think they try to sell to many tickets but then they cant handle it.

The cloakroom was full at 19:40 and they did NOT take our jackets so we had to carry them from place to place during the show.

We bought two £4 drinks and the bill came as £16 :) Why - because the bartender made a mistake and made it double without even asking.

The show boring, and not moving at all, stripping all the time. They did not anything interesting to show that evening except for one lady who was singing. "Performers" dont even have their changing room and they prepare among the audience.

Avoid.

Disappointed. The club sells too many tickets getting overcrowded and the 'diners' are angry that the standing visitors are restricting their view. Bartender makes mistakes.

I have to say my night at Proud Cabaret was one of the best I've had in a very long time, it's so refreshing to go somewhere different where you feel like you have stepped back in time and you forget the real world. The shows were like something I've only seen in films, they were outstanding.
I must admit, I was sceptical before going, reluctantly being dragged downstairs to what seemed like a 1950s speak easy, but within minutes i was intoxicated by the music, all round vibrant energy of the place and exceptional menu. A must! You would be a fool to miss out...

Proud Cabaret is a wonderful place for a night out. The venue feels really swanky and really takes you to the 1920's. Staff are decked out in fab outfits, and just the overall charm of the place is one to rival many bars in london. They have some of the best entertainment available and once thats finished you get to have a good dance yourselves. Am making this my number 1 london spot for a night out.

This is certainly not your average night out. What with the retro entertainment, the scenic 1920s movie film atmosphere, makes you feel part of a lost generation. Get your glad rags on and gear yourself up for a rather raucous affair.

Agree with the comments regarding the venue, ideal for any romantic soiree. Liked the variation in the acts, particularly some of the circus based ones - I was only expecting burlesque. Would certainly recommend going their for a drink, breaks up the monotony that some of the other bars in the area have created - not your average after work drinks venue.

A proper Cabaret in London. Exactly what we needed! That remind me so much what my grandma' told me about Cabaret in Paris at the beginning of the century. I will talke her there for Xmas - she will be so glad.

Thanks Proud for thinking about it!

Proud Cabaret is great for something a little bit different. Offer’s a really lovely lunch and supper in beautiful surroundings, modelled on a 1920’s speakeasy. It’s sophisticated, glamorous, but not garish or too over the top, as can very often be with themed venues! Also, if you’re not in the mood for a full blown meal, they offer a bar menu with some lighter choices on it. Also, a great wine list and delicious cocktails! Great acts at PC, always a fun and interesting night out! You can expect cabaret (obviously), jazz, burlesque – nipple tassels at the ready! live bands and DJ’s.

Went to Proud Cabaret this weekend - having been highly recommended it by several friends. A great night out - and such a beautiful intimate venue - and so festive! Service was just right - non-intrusive and efficient, and entertainment was top notch...Prices arent cheap but I would put them as expensive either as food is v high quality

Was really looking forward to experiencing Proud Cabaret, thinking it would be something different, but was hugely disappointed!

The decor was ok, not as intimate and as cosy as had thought.

Was really looking forward to good food, good drink and good entertainment, GOOD would have been 10 times better than what followed.

Before I could enjoy the entertainment I had been annoyed by the very very slack service. Shockingly un-organised and slow.

To top the very slow service the food was poor. The taste was ok, but the value for money (portion size) was terrible! £7.50 for bangers and mash and it was the served in an espresso cup.

So then came the entertainment - Cabaret?! looked like some very ropey girls from the local high school to me, must have been drafted in at the last minute. barely entertainment in my book, just intensely disapointing, will not be returning and would not recommend.

try at your peril

I went to Proud Cabaret last week for lunch and it was amazing - like nothing else available in the city! The staff were very friendly and we got to sit in a luxurious little banquette. I had the shepherd's pie and it took me right back to when my mum used to make it for me after school - delicious!

I would seriously recommend this place to a city folk or those looking for a great place to relax in the East of London. And apparently you can dance into the night... fabulous!
