Dating from the 1950s this working men's club is a retro haven. The sticky red carpet and broken lampshades perfectly suit Bethnal Green Working Men's Club's programme of quirky lounge, retro rock 'n' roll and fancy-dress burlesque parties from the likes of spandex-loving husband and wife Duotard or prop-themed nights. Offbeat art collective Oh My God I Miss You and the arts-and-craftsy Hungamunga also host off-the-wall shindigs on a semi-regular basis. The mood at Bethnal Green Working Men's Club is friendly, the playlist upbeat and the air always full of arty playful mischief. Door staff can be quite strict in enforcing the dress-up policy, so make an effort, and bear in mind the bar is cash only.
