It's no exaggeration to describe this corner venue as an institution, since it's welcomed across the threshold of its rather shabby upstairs room Coldplay, Franz Ferdinand and The Futureheads - just a few of the many bands who played very early London gigs here. It was a popular hangout during the Britpop and grunge years, doubtless due to its loud, post-band DJ sets (Queens of Noize later had a notorious residency here) and late licence. The Barfly retains its reputation for seven-day championing of cool and upcoming talent, making it a destination venue for serious music fans and partygoers alike.
